بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمـَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismi llāhi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīmi
Muslim communities worldwide have celebrated the Prophet'sﷺ life through myriad poetic forms and narratives, carried from manuscript page to prayer gathering, from private wird to congregational recitation and even weddings. One such mawlid which has settled deeply living devotional is سِمْطُ الدُّرَر (Simṭ al-Durar). Associated with al-Ḥabīb ʿAlī b. Muḥammad b. Ḥusayn al-Ḥabshī, it remains a loved mawlid in Hadrami and Indonesian circles.
The title Simṭ al-Durar —a string or necklace of pearls—is not merely decorative language but rather sheds some light about the work’s inner form. Pearls are gathered, threaded, and set in order; so too this mawlid gathers praise, lineage, longing, birth, beauty, and remembrance into a composition meant to move by sequence and return. The fuller title preserved in public witnesses—Simṭ al-Durar fī Akhbār Mawlid Khayr al-Bashar wa mā lahu min Akhlāq wa Awṣāf wa Siyar—makes plain that this is at once praise-text, birth narrative, and devotional sīrah.
One reason it has endured so strongly, in my view, is that it lives in more than one register at once. There is the authored matn itself, and there is the received recital form that many communities know by sound before they know it by page: the opening ṣalawāt, the مأخذ, the Qurʾanic passages, the flowing prose, the repeated congregational responses, and the standing section of *maḥall al-qiyām*. Public recital copies make that layered life unmistakable.
The prose opening after the basmala already explains much of its staying power:
الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الْقَوِيِّ سُلْطَانُهُ، الْوَاضِحِ بُرْهَانُهُ…
It is an opening with amplitude. It does not hurry toward narrative. It begins where a true mawlid should begin: in praise of Allah, and only then in the unfolding of the Beloved’s story ﷺ. That movement matters. Simṭ al-Durar is not simply a retelling of sacred biography; it is sīrah warmed by love, adab, and liturgical sound.
What continues to give the text life is its balance. It is learned without becoming dry, lyrical without losing structure, and intimate without becoming careless. It moves through themes the mawlid tradition knows well—the Muhammadan light, noble lineage, blessed birth, beauty of character, and the sweetness of communal praise—yet it keeps returning the listener to something simple and lasting: gratitude, longing, remembrance, and ṣalawāt.
That is why Simṭ al-Durar still belongs as much to breath as to ink. It is preserved not only by printed editions and digital scans, but by gatherings that keep reciting it until its cadences settle in the heart. What follows, then, is not only an introduction to a famous mawlid text. It is an attempt to listen more carefully to one of the most loved devotional compositions in the Hadrami–Nusantara inheritance.
Below you will find a common recital that is celebrated not only in the majalis (gatherings) of mawlid but also during the weddings of Yemeni diaspora in South-East Asia. فَيَا أَيُّهَا الرَّاجُونَ مِنْهُ شَفَاعَةً
صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Fa yā ayyuhar-rājūna minhu shafā'atan / sallū 'alayhi wa sallimū taslīmā
O you who place your hopes in his ﷺ intercession, send blessings upon him and greet him with peace.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him ﷺ.
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُشْتَاقُونَ إِلَى رُؤْيَا جَمَالِهِ
صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Yā ayyuhal-mushtāqūna ilā ru'yā jamālihi / sallū 'alayhi wa sallimū taslīmā
O you whose hearts ache to behold the beauty of his ﷺ countenance, send blessings upon him and greet him with peace.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him ﷺ.
يَا مَنْ يَخْطُبُ وِصَالَهُ يَقَظَةً وَمَنَامًا
صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Yā man yakhtubu wisālahu yaqazatan wa manāman / sallū 'alayhi wa sallimū taslīmā
O you who seek communion with him ﷺ waking and dreaming alike, send blessings upon him and greet him with peace.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him ﷺ.

Allāhumma salli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi
O Peace be upon you, O Jewel (lit. beauty or adornment) of the Prophets — peace be upon you.
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيمِ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Aʿūdhu bi-llāhi l-samīʿi l-ʿalīmi mina l-shayṭāni l-rajīmi
Bismi llāhi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīmi
I seek refuge in God, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from Satan, the accursed.
In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Always-Merciful.
إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُّبِينًا
لِّيَغْفِرَ لَكَ ٱللَّهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنۢبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ
وَيُتِمَّ نِعْمَتَهُۥ عَلَيْكَ وَيَهْدِيَكَ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا
وَيَنصُرَكَ ٱللَّهُ نَصْرًا عَزِيزًا
Innā fataḥnā laka fatḥan mubīnā,
liyaghfira lakal-lāhu mā taqaddama min dhanbika wa mā ta'akhkhara
wa yutimma ni'matahū 'alayka wa yahdiyaka ṣirāṭan mustaqīmā, wa yanṣurakal-lāhu naṣran 'azīzā.
VERILY, [O Muhammad,] We have laid open before thee a manifest victory,
so that God might show His forgiveness of all thy faults, past as well as future,
and [thus] bestow upon thee the full measure of His blessings, and guide thee on a straight way,
and [show] that God will succour thee with [His] mighty succour. (Surah Al-Fath 48:1–3)
لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ
عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم
بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ
فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ
عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
Laqad jā'akum rasūlun min anfusikum
'azīzun 'alayhi mā 'anittum ḥarīṣun 'alaykum
bil-mu'minīna ra'ūfun raḥīm.
Fa'in tawallaw faqul ḥasbiyallāhu lā ilāha illā huwa
'alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa rabbul-'arshil-'aẓīm.
heavily weighs -upon him [the thought] that you might suffer [in the life to come]; full of concern for you [is he, and]
full of compassion and mercy towards the believers.
But if those [who are bent on denying the truth] turn away, say: 'God is enough for me! There is no- deity save Him.
In Him have I placed my trust, for He is the Sustainer, in awesome almightiness enthroned.'
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا
Innal-lāha wa malā'ikatahū yuṣallūna 'alan-nabiyy,
yā ayyuhal-ladhīna āmanū ṣallū 'alayhi wa sallimū taslīmā.
Verily, God and His angels bless the Prophet: [hence,]
O you who have attained to faith, bless him and give yourselves up [to his guidance] in utter self-surrender!
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him ﷺ.
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace

يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ اَكْرَمِ دَاعٍ يَدْعُوْ اِلَى الْحَقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Akrami dā'in yad'ū ilal-ḥaqq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ The most generous of callers, calling people to the truth

O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ The Chosen One — truthful, and confirmed in his truth
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ اَحْلٰى الْوَرٰى مَنْطِقًا وَاَصْدَقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Aḥlal-warā manṭiqan wa aṣdaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ The sweetest of all people in speech, and the most sincere
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ اَفْضَلِ مَنْ بِالتُّقَى تَحَقَّـقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Afḍali man bit-tuqā taḥaqqaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ The most virtuous of all who truly embodied God-consciousness
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ مَنْ بِالسَّخَا وَالْوَفَا تَخَلَّقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Man bis-sakhā wal-wafā takhallaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ He whose very character was shaped by generosity and loyalty
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ وَاجْمَعْ مِنَ الشَّمْلِ مَاتَفَرَّقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Wajma' minash-shamli mā tafarraq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ And reunite, through him, all that has become scattered and apart
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ وَاصْلِحْ وَسَهِّلْ مَا قَدْ تَعَوَّقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Waṣliḥ wa sahhil mā qad ta'awwaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ And set right, and ease, whatever has been hampered or delayed
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ وَافْتَحْ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ كُلَّ مُغْلَقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Waftaḥ minal-khayri kulla mughlaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ And open, through him, every door of (flowing) goodness (abundance and welfare from Allah) that remains foreclosed
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ وَاٰلِه وَمَنْ بِالنَّبِيْ تَعَـلَّقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Wa ālihi wa man bin-nabī ta'allaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ And upon his family and all who hold fast to the Prophet
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ وَاٰلِه وَمَنْ لِلْحَبِيْبْ يَعْشَقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Wa ālihi wa man lil-ḥabībi ya'shaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ And upon his family and all who carry deep love for the Beloved
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alayhi wa sallim
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ O my Lord, bless him and grant him peace
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ وَمَنْ بِحَبْلِ النَّـبِيْ تَوَثَّـقْ
Yā Rabbi ṣalli 'alā Muḥammad ✿ Wa man biḥablin-nabī tawathaq
O my Lord, send salawat upon Muhammadﷺ ✿ And upon those who firmly hold to the rope of the Prophet
يَارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ✿ يَــارَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمْ

اَلْحَمْدُلِلهِ الْقَوِيِّ سُلْطَانُهُ
Al-ḥamdulillāhi al-qawiyyi sulṭānuh
All praise belongs to Allah, whose sovereignty is absolute and unassailable.
اَلْوَاضِحِ بُرْهَانُهُ
Al-wāḍiḥi burhānuhHis proof is luminously clear.
اَلْمَبْسُوطِ فِي الْوُجُودِ كَرَمُهُ وَاِحْسَانُهُ
Al-mabsūṭi fi al-wujūdi karamuhū wa iḥsānuh
His generosity and grace are spread wide across the whole of existence.
صَلُّواعَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ
Ṣallū 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
Send your blessings upon him and upon his family.
تَعَالَى مَجْدُهُ وَعَظُمَ شَأْنُهُ
Ta'ālā majduhū wa 'aẓuma sha'nuh
His glory is exalted and his station is immeasurably great.
خَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ لِحِكْمَهْ
وَطَوَى عَلَيْهَا عِلْمَهْ
وَبَسَطَ لَهُمْ مِنْ فَاَئِضِ الْمِنَّةِ مَا جَرَتْ بِهِ فِي اَقْدَارِهِ الْقِسْمَةِ
فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِمْ اَشْرَفَ خَلْقِهِ وَاَجَلَّ عَبِيْدِهِ رَحْمَةً
Khalaqa al-khalqa li-ḥikmahWa ṭawā 'alayhā 'ilmah
Wa basaṭa lahum min fā'iḍi al-minnati mā jarat bihi fī aqdārihī al-qismah
Fa arsala ilayhim ashrafa khalqihī wa ajalla 'abīdihī raḥmatan
He created all creation with wisdom as its very purpose.
And within that wisdom He folded His boundless knowledge.
And He spread before them, from the overflow of His blessings, all that His divine decree had ordained in the distribution of His gifts.
So He sent to them the noblest of Hiis creation and the most honored of His servants, as a mercy.
تَعَلَّقَتْ إِرَادَتُهُ الْأَزَلِيَّةُ بِخَلْقِ هَذَا الْعَبْدِ الْمَحْبُوْبِ
فَانْتَشَرَتْ اَثَارُ شَرَفِهِ فِي عَوَالِمِ الشَّهَادَةِ وَالْغُيُوْبِ
فَمَا اَجَلَّ هَذَا الْمَنَّ الَّذِي تَكَرَّمَ بِهِ الْمَنَّانْ
وَمَا اَعْظَمَ هَذَا الْفَضْلَ الَّذِي بَرَزَ مِنْ حَضْرَةِ الْإِحْسَانْ
صُوْرَةً كَامِلَةً ظَهَرَتْ فِي هَيْكَلٍ مَحْمُوْدْ
فَتَعَطَّرَتْ بِوُجُودِهَا اَكْنَافُ الْوُجُوْدِ
Ta'allaqat irādatuhū al-azaliyyatu bi-khalqi hādhā al-'abdi al-maḥbūb
Fantasharat āthāru sharafihi fī 'awālimi al-shahādati wa al-ghuyūb
Famā ajalla hādhā al-manna alladhī takarrama bihī al-mannān
Wa mā a'ẓama hādhā al-faḍla alladhī baraza min ḥaḍrati al-iḥsān
Ṣūratan kāmilatan ẓaharat fī haykalin maḥmūd
Fata'aṭṭarat bi-wujūdihā aknāfu al-wujūd
His eternal will was set upon the creation of this most beloved servant.
And the traces of his nobility spread across the realms of both the seen and the unseen.
How magnificent is this gift that the Most Generous has so graciously bestowed.
And how immense is this grace that emerged from the very presence of divine goodness.
A perfected form that appeared within the most praised and luminous of frames.
And with his presence, every corner of existence was perfumed.
وَطُرِّزَتْ بُرْدَ الْعَوَالِمِ بِطِرَازِ التَّكْرِيْمِ
Wa ṭurrizat burda al-'awālimi bi-ṭirāzi al-takrīm
The garment of all worlds was embroidered with the finest thread of honor and dignity.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family.
تَجَلَّى الْحَقُّ فِي عَالَمِ قُدْسِهِ الْوَاسِعْ
تَجَلِّيًا قَضَى بِانْتِشَارِ فَضْلِهِ فِي الْقَرِيبِ وَالشَّاسِعْ
Tajallal-Haqqu fī 'ālamī qudsihil-wāsi'
Tajallīyan qadhā bintishāri fadhlihi fil-qarībi wash-shāsi'
The Truth, in all His glory, reveals Himself across the vast expanse of His sacred realm.
A manifestation that has decreed the spread of His grace — to those near and those far, without exception.
فَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ الَّذِي لَا تَنْحَصِرُ أَفْرَادُهُ بِتَعْدَادْ
وَلَا يُمَلُّ تَكْرَارُهُ بِكَثْرَةِ تَرْدَادْ
Falahul-hamdul-ladhī lā tanhashiru afrāduhu bita'dād
Wa lā yumallu takrāruhu bikathrati tardād
To Him belongs all praise — praise so boundless it cannot be contained by any count.
And no matter how many times it is repeated, the heart never tires of returning to it.
حَيْثُ أَبْرَزَ مِنْ عَالَمِ الْإِمْكَانْ
Haitsu abroza min 'ālamil-imkān
For it was through His will that He brought forth, from the realm of all possibility.
صُوْرَةَ هَذَا الْإِنْسَانْ
Shūrota hādzal-insān
the (most noble) embodiment of what a human being could ever be.
لِيَتَشَرَّفَ بِوُجُودِهِ الثَّقَلَانْ
Liyatasyarrofa biwujūdihits-tsaqolān
So that all of creation (humankind and spirit) — might be honoured by his very presence.
وَتَنْتَشِرَ أَسْرَارُهُ فِي الْأَكْوَانْ
Wa tantasyiro asrāruhu fil-akwān
And so that the mysteries he carried within him might radiate outward across every world and every age
فَمَا مِنْ سِرٍّ اتَّصَلَ بِهِ قَلْبُ مُنِيبْ
Famā min sirrinit-tashola bihi qolbu munīb
There is no secret truth that a returning, wakeful heart draws near to,
إِلَّا مِنْ سَوَابِغِ فَضْلِ اللهِ عَلَى هَذَا الْحَبِيبْ
Illā min sawābighi fadhlillāhi 'alā hādhal-habīb
except that it flows, inevitably, from the overflowing grace Allah bestowed upon this most beloved one.
يَا الْقَلْبِ سُرُورُهُ قَدْ تَوَالَى
بِحَبِيبٍ عَمَّ الْأَنَامَ نَوَالَا
Yāl-qalbi surūruhu qad tawālā, bihabībin 'ammal-anāma nawālā
O heart, joy upon joy keeps coming, through a beloved whose gifts have reached all of humanity.
جَلَّ مَنْ شَرَّفَ الْوُجُودَ بِنُورٍ
غَمَرَ الْكَوْنَ بَهْجَةً وَجَمَالَا
Jalla man sharrafa-l-wujūda binūrin, ghamarak-kawna bahjatan wa jamālā
Exalted is the One who honoured existence with a light that flooded the entire universe with radiance and beauty.
قَدْ تَرَقَّى فِي الْحُسْنِ أَعْلَى مَقَامٍ
وَتَنَاهَى فِي مَجْدِهِ وَتَعَالَى
Qad taraqqā fil-husni a'lā maqāmin, wa tanāhā fī majdihi wa ta'ālā
He rose to the highest station in beauty, and reached the very furthest reaches of glory and sublimity.
لَا حَظَتْهُ الْعُيُونُ فِيمَا اجْتَلَتْهُ
بَشَرًا كَامِلًا يُزِيحُ الضَّلَالَ
Lā hazathu-l-'uyūnu fīmaj-talathu, basharan kāmilan yuzīhud-dalāl
Eyes that beheld him saw, in what they witnessed, a complete and perfect human being — one whose very presence dispels all error and misguidance.
وَهُوَ مِنْ فَوْقِ عِلْمِ مَا قَدْ رَأَتْهُ
رِفْعَةً فِي شُؤُونِهِ وَكَمَالَا
Wa huwa min fawqi 'ilmi mā qad ra'athu, rif'atan fī shu'ūnihi wa kamālā
And yet he stands far beyond whatever knowledge any eye has ever grasped of him — his true elevation and perfection remain beyond all reach.
فَسُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَبْرَزَ مِنْ حَضْرَةِ الْإِمْتِنَانِ
Fasubhānal-ladhī abroza min hadhratiI-imtinān
Glory be to the One who brought forth, from the very presence of His boundless generosity,
مَا يَعْجُزُ عَنْ وَصْفِهِ اللِّسَانُ
Mā ya'juzu 'an wasfihill-lisān
that which no tongue is capable of describing.
وَيَحَارُ فِي تَعَقُّلِ مَعَانِيهِ الْجَنَانُ
Wa yahāru fī ta'aqquli ma'ānīhil-janān
And before whose meanings the mind itself stands lost and bewildered.
انْتَشَرَ مِنْهُ فِي عَالَمِ الْبُطُونِ وَالظُّهُورِ
Intashara minhu fī 'ālamil-butūni waz-zuhūr
From him it spread — across the world of what is hidden and what is manifest.
مَا مَلَأَ الْوُجُودَ الْخَلْقِيَّ نُورُ
Mā mala'al-wujūdal-khalqiyya nūr
A light that filled all of created existence to its fullness.
فَتَبَارَكَ اللهُ مِنْ إِلَهٍ كَرِيمٍ
Fatābārakallāhu min ilāhin karīm
Blessed then is Allah — what a generous and majestic God He is.
بَشَّرَتْنَا آيَاتُهُ فِي الذِّكْرِ الْحَكِيمِ
Bashsharatnā āyātuhu fidh-dhikril-hakīm
His verses in the Wise Reminder have brought us the most glad of tidings.
بِبِشَارَةٍ — لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ
Bibshāratin — laqad jā'akum rasūlun min anfusikum
With this glad tiding — there has come to you a Messenger from among your own selves
عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ
'Azīzun 'alaihi mā 'anittum harīshun 'alaikum bil-mu'minīna ra'ūfun rahīm
To whom your suffering is a weight he cannot bear, who is deeply concerned for you, and toward the believers — tender beyond measure, endlessly compassionate.
فَمَنْ فَاجَأَتْهُ هَذِهِ الْبِشَارَةُ وَتَلَقَّاهَا بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
Faman fāja'athu hādhihil-bishāratu wa talaqqāhā biqalbin salīm
Whoever this glad tiding reaches, and who receives it with a sound and open heart —
فَقَدْ هُدِيَ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ
Faqad hudiya ilā sirātim mustaqīm
has indeed been guided to a path that is straight (without deviation )
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family.
وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ شَهَادَةً تُعْرِبُ بِهَا اللِّسَانُ عَمَّا تَضَمَّنَهُ الْجَنَانُ مِنَ التَّصْدِيقِ بِهَا وَالْإِذْعَانِ
Wa ashhadu an lā ilāha illallāhu wahdahu lā sharīka lahu, shahādatan tu'ribu bihal-lisānu 'ammā tadammanahal-janānu minat-tasdīqi bihā wal-idh'ān
And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner — a testimony through which the tongue gives outward expression to what the heart already holds within it of belief and willing surrender.
تَثْبُتُ بِهَا فِي الصُّدُورِ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ قَوَاعِدُهُ وَتَلُوحُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْيَقِينِ مِنْ سِرِّ ذَلِكَ الْإِذْعَانِ وَالتَّصْدِيقِ شَوَاهِدُهُ
Tathhbutu bihā fis-sudūri minal-īmāni qawā'iduhu, wa talūhu 'alā ahlil-yaqīni min sirri dhālikal-idh'āni wat-tasdīqi shawāhiduh
Through it, the very foundations of faith are anchored firmly within the chest — and its inner signs shine outward upon the people of certainty, from the secret of that surrender and conviction.
وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ سَيِّدَنَا مُحَمَّدًا الْعَبْدُ الصَّادِقُ فِي قَوْلِهِ وَفِعْلِهِ وَالْمُبَلَّغُ عَنِ اللهِ مَا أَمَرَهُ بِتَبْلِيغِهِ لِخَلْقِهِ مِنْ فَرْضِهِ وَنَفْلِهِ
Wa ashhadu anna sayyidanā Muhammadanil-'abdus-sādiqū fī qawlihi wa fi'lihi, wal-muballaghu 'anillāhi mā amarahu bitablīghihi likhalqihi min fardihi wa naflih
And I bear witness that our master Muhammad is the truthful servant — truthful in word and in deed — and the one entrusted to convey to all of creation whatever Allah commanded him to deliver, of both what is obligatory and what is of further good.
عَبْدٌ أَرْسَلَهُ اللهُ لِلْعَالَمِينَ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا فَبَلَّغَ الرِّسَالَةَ وَأَدَّى الْأَمَانَةَ وَهَدَى اللهُ بِهِ مِنَ الْأُمَّةِ بَشَرًا كَثِيرًا فَكَانَ فِي ظُلْمَةِ الْجَهْلِ لِلْمُسْتَبْصِرِينَ سِرَاجًا وَقَمَرًا مُنِيرًا
Abdun arsalahullāhu lil-'ālamīna bashīran wa nadhīran, fabalaghhar-risālata wa addal-amānata, wa hadallāhu bihi minal-ummati basharan kathīrā, fakāna fī zulmatil-jahli lil-mustabsirīna sirājan wa qamaran munīrā
A servant whom Allah sent to all of existence as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner. He conveyed the Message fully and discharged the trust completely. Through him, Allah guided countless people of his nation. In the darkness of ignorance, he was for those who sought to see — a lamp and a luminous moon.
فَمَا أَعْظَمَهَا مِنْ مِنَّةٍ تَكَرَّمَ اللهُ بِهَا عَلَى الْبَشَرِ وَمَا أَوْسَعَهَا مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ انْتَشَرَ سِرُّهَا فِي الْبَحْرِ وَالْبَرِّ
Famā a'zamahā min minnetin takaramallāhu bihā 'alal-bashar, wa mā awsa'ahā min ni'matin intashara sirruhā fil-bahri wal-barr
How immense a gift it was, that Allah in His generosity bestowed upon all of humanity — and how vast a blessing, whose secret has spread across both sea and land.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ بِأَجَلِّ الصَّلَوَاتِ وَأَجْمَعِهَا وَأَزْكَى التَّحِيَّاتِ وَأَوْسَعِهَا عَلَى هَذَا الْعَبْدِ الَّذِي وَفَى بِحَقِّ الْعُبُودِيَّةِ وَبَرَزَ فِيهَا فِي خِلْعَةِ الْكَمَالِ وَقَامَ بِحَقِّ الرُّبُوبِيَّةِ فِي مَوَاطِنِ الْخِدْمَةِ لِلَّهِ وَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ غَايَةَ الْإِقْبَالِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim bi-ajallis-salawāti wa ajma'ihā, wa azkāt-tahiyyāti wa awsa'ihā, 'alā hādhal-'abdil-ladhī wafā bihaqqil-'ubūdiyyati wa baraza fīhā fī khil'atil-kamāl, wa qāma bihaqqir-rubūbiyyati fī mawātiniI-khidmati lillāhi wa aqbala 'alaihi ghāyatal-iqbāl
O Allah, send the most majestic and comprehensive of blessings, and the purest and most expansive of salutations, upon this servant who fulfilled the right of servitude completely — appearing within it clothed in the garment of perfection — and who stood firm in honoring the right of the Lord in every station of service to Allah, turning toward Him with the fullest and most absolute of turning.
صَلَاةً يَتَّصِلُ بِهَا رُوحُ الْمُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ فَيَنْبَسِطُ فِي قَلْبِهِ نُورُ سِرِّ تَعَلُّقِهِ بِهِ وَحُبِّهِ وَيُكْتَبُ بِهَا بِعِنَايَةِ اللهِ فِي حِزْبِهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ الَّذِينَ ارْتَقَوْا صَهْوَةَ الْمَجْدِ بِقُرْبِهِ وَتَفَيَّؤُوا ظِلَالَ الشَّرَفِ الْأَصْلِيِّ بِوُدِّهِ وَحُبِّهِ
Salātan yattasilu bihā rūhul-musallī 'alaihi, fa-yanbusitu fī qalbihi nūru sirri ta'alluqihi bihi wa hubbih, wa yuktabu bihā bi-'ināyatillāhi fī hizbih, wa 'alā ālihi wa sahbihil-ladhīna irtaqaw sahwatal-majdi biqurbih, wa tafayya'ū zilālash-sharafil-asliyyi biwuddihi wa hubbih
A blessing through which the soul of the one who sends it becomes connected to him — and within that heart the light of the secret of its attachment to him and its love for him spreads wide. Through it, by Allah's care, one is written among his people. And upon his family and companions, who ascended to the heights of glory through closeness to him, and rested in the shade of original nobility through his affection and his love.
مَا عَطَّرَ الْأَكْوَانَ بِنَشْرِ ذِكْرَاهُمْ نَسِيمُ
Mā 'attaral-akwāna binashri dhikrāhum nasīm
AFor as long as a breeze perfumes the universe, carrying the fragrance of their remembered names.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.

Alā yā Allāh yā Rabb yā 'Ālim bi-ḥālī · 'asā ba'da'ẓ-ẓamā bā-yaqa' lī shurba ḥālī
O God, O Lord, O You who know my state — perhaps after this thirst, a sweet draught will come my way.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي
Alā yā Allāh yā Rabb yā 'Ālim bi-ḥālī · 'asā ba'da'ẓ-ẓamā bā-yaqa' lī shurba ḥālī
O God, O Lord, O You who know my state — perhaps after this thirst, a sweet draught will come my way.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي
Alā yā Allāh yā Rabb yā 'Ālim bi-ḥālī · 'asā ba'da'ẓ-ẓamā bā-yaqa' lī shurba ḥālī
O God, O Lord, O You who know my state — perhaps after this thirst, a sweet draught will come my way.
بَدَالِي مِنْ عَظِيْمِ العَطَا مَا قَدْ بَدَالِي · وَحُسْنُ الظَّنِّ فِيْمَنْ دَعَانِي رَاسْ مَالِي
Badā lī min 'aẓīmi'l-'aṭā mā qad badā lī · wa ḥusnu'ẓ-ẓanni fīman da'ānī ra'su mālī
There has appeared to me from His immense giving what has appeared, and good faith in the One who called me is my whole capital.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي
Alā yā Allāh yā Rabb yā 'Ālim bi-ḥālī · 'asā ba'da'ẓ-ẓamā bā-yaqa' lī shurba ḥālī
O God, O Lord, O You who know my state — perhaps after this thirst, a sweet draught will come my way.
وَفِي أَعْتَابْ بَابِ النَّدَى حَطَّتْ رِحَالِي · وَهَانَا مُنْتَظِرْ فَضْلَ وَهَّابِ النَّوَالِ
Wa fī a'tābi bābi'n-nadā ḥaṭṭat riḥālī · wa hānā muntaẓir faḍla Wahhābi'n-nawāli
At the threshold of the gate of generosity I have set down my bags, and here I wait for the grace of the Bestower of gifts.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي

O God, O Lord, O You who know my state — perhaps after this thirst, a sweet draught will come my way.
فَيَا ذَا الجُوْدِ يَا رَبْ يَا مَوْلَى الْمَوَالِي · وَيَا مُعْطِيَ العَطَايَا العَظِيْمَاتِ الْجِزَالِ
Fa yā Dha'l-Jūdi yā Rabb yā Mawla'l-mawālī · wa yā Mu'ṭiya'l-'aṭāya'l-'aẓīmāti'l-jizāli
O Possessor of Generosity, O Lord, O Master of all masters, O Giver of gifts immense and abundant.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي

أَذِقْنَا بَرْدَ عَفْوِكْ وَأَصْلِحْ كُلَّ بَالِ · وَجَمِّلْنَا وَيَسِّرْ لَنَا سُبْلَ الْكَمَالِ
Adhiqnā barda 'afwik wa aṣliḥ kulla bāli · wa jammilnā wa yassir lanā subula'l-kamāli
Let us taste the coolness of Your pardon, set right every condition, beautify us and ease for us the paths of perfection.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي
Alā yā Allāh yā Rabb yā 'Ālim bi-ḥālī · 'asā ba'da'ẓ-ẓamā bā-yaqa' lī shurba ḥālī
O God, O Lord, O You who know my state — perhaps after this thirst, a sweet draught will come my way.
بَدَالِي مِنْ عَظِيْمِ العَطَا مَا قَدْ بَدَالِي · وَحُسْنُ الظَّنِّ فِيْمَنْ دَعَانِي رَاسْ مَالِي
Badā lī min 'aẓīmi'l-'aṭā mā qad badā lī · wa ḥusnu'ẓ-ẓanni fīman da'ānī ra'su mālī
There has appeared to me from His immense giving what has appeared, and good faith in the One who called me is my whole capital.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..

وَهَبْنَا كُلَّ مَا نَرْتَجِي وَاقْبَلْ سُؤَالِي · وَعَلِّمْنَا عُلُوْمَ السَّلَاطِيْنِ الرِّجَالِ
Wa habnā kulla mā nartajī wa'qbal su'ālī · wa 'allimnā 'ulūma's-salāṭīni'r-rijāli
Grant us all that we hope for and accept my plea, and teach us the knowledge of the sovereign men.

وَوَفِّقْنَا لِمَا تَرْتَضِي فِي كُلِّ حَالِ · وَحَبِّبْنَا إِلَى الْمُصْطَفَى مَوْلَى بِلَالِ
Wa waffiqnā limā tartaḍī fī kulli ḥāli · wa ḥabbibnā ila'l-Muṣṭafā Mawlā Bilāli
Grant us success in what pleases You in every state, and make us beloved to the Chosen One, the master of Bilāl.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي

وَحِطْنَا بِالْعِنَايَةْ وَتَسْدِيْدِ الْمَقَالِ · وَبَلِّغْنَا مَقَامَ الرِّضَا يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ
Wa ḥiṭnā bi'l-'ināyati wa tasdīdi'l-maqāli · wa ballighnā maqāma'r-riḍā yā Dha'l-Jalāli
Surround us with care and soundness of speech, and bring us to the station of contentment, O Possessor of Majesty.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي

وَحَقِّقْنَا بِصِدْقِ اللَّجَا وَالْإِبْتِهَالِ · وَسَامِحْنَا وَأَنْعِمْ عَلَيْنَا بِالْوِصَالِ
Wa ḥaqqiqnā bi-ṣidqi'l-lajā wa'l-ibtihāli · wa sāmiḥnā wa an'im 'alaynā bi'l-wiṣāli
Grant us the reality of sincere refuge and supplication, forgive us and bless us with nearness.

فَيَا رَبِّ اسْتَجِبْ دَعْوَتِي وَاحْمِلْ ثِقَالِي · عَلَى ظَهْرِي مِنَ الْوِزْرِ أَمْثَالِ الْجِبَالِ
Fa yā Rabbi'stajib da'watī wa'ḥmil thiqālī · 'alā ẓahrī mina'l-wizri amthāla'l-jibāli
O my Lord, answer my prayer and carry my burdens — upon my back, sins like mountains.
أَلَا يَا اللهُ يَا رَبْ يَا عَالِمْ بِحَالِي · عَسَى بَعْدَ الظَّمَا بَايَقَعْ لِي شُرْبَ حَالِي
Alā yā Allāh yā Rabb yā 'Ālim bi-ḥālī · 'asā ba'da'ẓ-ẓamā bā-yaqa' lī shurba ḥālī
At Your door we stand in the posture of obedience, and from Your hoped-for grace we hope for giving, O Possessor of bounty.
عَسَى بِالْمُصْطَفَى الْمُجْتَبَى عَيْنِ الرِّجَالِ · يَصِيْرُ الْوِزْرُ حَسَنَاتٍ وَالْمَرْذُوْلُ غَالِي
'Asā bi'l-Muṣṭafā'l-Mujtabā 'ayni'r-rijāli · yaṣīru'l-wizru ḥasanātin wa'l-mardhūlu ghālī
Perhaps through the Chosen, the Elect, the very eye of men, sins will become good deeds and the rejected one will become precious.

A few notes on the language. This qaṣīdah uses a consistent *ḥālī* end-rhyme throughout (the *lām-yā'* pattern), and the vocabulary draws heavily on the classical tradition of *munājāh* — intimate, direct address to God — and several lines carry the Ḥaḍramī devotional register you'd expect from the Majelis Rasulullah tradition, including colloquial-inflected forms like *bā-yaqa'* (from Ḥaḍramī dialect, meaning "it will fall/come to pass") and *hānā* ("here," also dialectal). The phrase *'ulūm as-salāṭīn ar-rijāl* in verse 6 refers not to worldly kingship but to the inner knowledge of the great spiritual masters — the "kings among men" in the Sufi sense. And the closing couplet carries the deeply hopeful theology of *tabdīl as-sayyi'āt ḥasanāt* — the transformation of sins into good deeds — rooted in Qur'ān 25:70.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family.

فَلَمَّا تَعَلَّقَتْ إِرَادَةُ اللَّهِ فِي العِلْمِ القَدِيمِ
بِظُهُورِ أَسْرَارِ التَّخْصِيصِ لِلْبَشَرِ الكَرِيمِ
بِالتَّقْدِيمِ وَالتَّكْرِيمِ
Fa-lammā taʿallaqat irādatu Llāhi fī l-ʿilmi l-qadīm
bi-ẓuhūri asrāri l-takhṣīṣi li-l-bashari l-karīm
bi-l-taqdīmi wa-l-takrīm.
When the Will of God — within the Ancient, Pre-eternal Knowledge — attached itself
to the manifestation of the mysteries of distinction for the Noble Human Being,
through precedence and honour,
نَفَذَتِ القُدْرَةُ البَاهِرَةُ
بِالنِّعْمَةِ الوَاسِعَةِ وَالمِنَّةِ الغَامِرَةِ
Nafadhat il-qudratu l-bāhira
bi-l-niʿmati l-wāsiʿati wa-l-minnati l-ghāmira.
the Dazzling Power took effect,
accompanied by the Vast Blessing and the Overflowing Grace.
فَانْفَلَقَتْ بَيْضَةُ التَّصْوِيرِ
فِي العَالَمِ المُطْلَقِ الكَبِيرِ
Fa-nfalaqat bayḍatu l-taṣwīr
fī l-ʿālami l-muṭlaqi l-kabīr.
And so the Egg of Formation split open
within the Great, Absolute Realm —
عَنْ جَمَالٍ مَشْهُودٍ بِالعَيْنِ
حَاوٍ لِوَصْفِ الكَمَالِ المُطْلَقِ وَالحُسْنِ التَّامِّ وَالزَّيْنِ
An jamālin mashhūdin bi-l-ʿayn
ḥāwin li-waṣfi l-kamāli l-muṭlaqi wa-l-ḥusni l-tāmmi wa-l-zayn.
revealing a beauty witnessed by the very eye,
one that encompassed the description of absolute perfection, complete goodness, and adornment.
فَتَنَقَّلَ ذَلِكَ الجَمَالُ المَيْمُونُ
فِي الأَصْلَابِ الكَرِيمَةِ وَالبُطُونِ
Fa-tanaqqala dhālika l-jamālu l-maymūn
fī l-aṣlābi l-karīmati wa-l-buṭūn.
That blessed beauty then passed
through the noble loins and wombs.
فَمَا مِنْ صُلْبٍ ضَمَّهُ
إِلَّا وَتَمَّتْ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ اللَّهِ النِّعْمَةُ
Fa-mā min ṣulbin ḍammahu
illā wa-tammat ʿalayhi min Allāhi l-niʿma.
Not a single loin harboured him
but that God's blessing was made complete upon it.
فَهُوَ القَمَرُ التَّامُّ الَّذِي يَتَنَقَّلُ فِي بُرُوجِهِ
لِيَتَشَرَّفَ بِهِ مَوْطِنُ اسْتِقْرَارِهِ وَمَوْضِعُ خُرُوجِهِ
Fa-huwa l-qamaru l-tāmmu lladhī yatanaqqalu fī burūjihi
li-yatasharrafa bihi mawṭinu stiqrārihi wa-mawḍiʿu khurūjih.
For he is the Full Moon that traverses its celestial stations,
so that the place of his rest and the site of his emergence might be ennobled through him.
وَقَدْ قَضَتِ الأَقْدَارُ الأَزَلِيَّةُ بِمَا قَضَتْ
وَأَظْهَرَتْ مِنْ سِرِّ هَذَا النُّورِ مَا أَظْهَرَتْ
وَخَصَّصَتْ بِهِ مَنْ خَصَّصَتْ
Wa-qad qaḍati l-aqdāru l-azaliyyatu bi-mā qaḍat
wa-aẓharat min sirri hādhā l-nūri mā aẓharat
wa-khaṣṣaṣat bihi man khaṣṣaṣat.
The Pre-eternal Decrees ordained what they ordained,
and brought to light from the secret of this Light what they brought to light,
and singled out through him whomever they singled out.
فَكَانَ مُسْتَقَرُّهُ فِي الأَصْلَابِ الفَاخِرَةِ
وَالأَرْحَامِ الشَّرِيفَةِ الطَّاهِرَةِ
Fa-kāna mustaqarruhu fī l-aṣlābi l-fākhira
wa-l-arḥāmi l-sharīfati l-ṭāhira.
His resting place was in the illustrious loins
and the noble, pure wombs —
حَتَّى بَرَزَ فِي عَالَمِ الشَّهَادَةِ بَشَرًا لَا كَالبَشَرِ
وَنُورًا حَيَّرَ الأَفْكَارَ ظُهُورُهُ وَبَهَرَ
Ḥattā baraza fī ʿālami l-shahādati basharan lā ka-l-bashar
wa-nūran ḥayyara l-afkāra ẓuhūruhu wa-bahar.
until he came forth into the world of visible creation: a human being unlike any other,
and a light whose appearance bewildered and dazzled all thought.
فَتَعَلَّقَتْ هِمَّةُ الرَّاقِمِ لِهَذِهِ الحُرُوفِ
بِأَنْ يَرْقُمَ فِي هَذَا القِرْطَاسِ مَا هُوَ لَدَيْهِ مِنْ عَجَائِبِ ذَلِكَ النُّورِ مَعْرُوفٌ
وَإِنْ كَانَتِ الأَلْسُنُ لَا تَفِي بِعُشْرِ مِعْشَارِ أَوْصَافِ ذَلِكَ المَوْصُوفِ.
Fa-taʿallaqat himmatu l-rāqimi li-hādhihi l-ḥurūf
bi-an yarquma fī hādhā l-qirṭāsi mā huwa ladayhi min ʿajāʾibi dhālika l-nūri maʿrūf
wa-in kānati l-alsunu lā tafī bi-ʿushri miʿshāri awṣāfi dhālika l-mawṣūf.
And so the aspiration of the one who inscribes these letters
attached itself to inscribe upon this parchment what is known to him of the wonders of that Light —
even though tongues cannot fulfil a tenth of a tenth of the descriptions due to that Described One.
تَشْوِيقًا لِلسَّامِعِينَ
مِنْ خَوَاصِّ المُؤْمِنِينَ
وَتَرْوِيحًا لِلْمُتَعَلِّقِينَ بِهَذَا النُّورِ المُبِينِ.
Tashwīqan li-l-sāmiʿīn
min khawāṣṣi l-muʾminīn
wa-tarwīḥan li-l-mutaʿalliqīna bi-hādhā l-nūri l-mubīn.
This is done as a stirring of longing in the listeners
from among the elect of the believers,
and as a refreshment for those whose hearts are attached to this Manifest Light.
وَإِلَّا فَأَنَّى تُعْرِبُ الأَقْلَامُ
عَنْ شُؤُونِ خَيْرِ الأَنَامِ
Wa-illā fa-annā tuʿribu l-aqlām
ʿan shuʾūni khayri l-anām.
For otherwise, how could pens ever give expression
to the affairs of the Best of All Creation?
وَلَكِنْ هَزَّنِي إِلَى تَدْوِينِ مَا حَفِظْتُهُ مِنْ سِيَرِ أَشْرَفِ المَخْلُوقِينَ
وَمَا أَكْرَمَهُ اللَّهُ بِهِ فِي مَوْلِدِهِ مِنَ الفَضْلِ الَّذِي عَمَّ العَالَمِينَ
وَبَقِيَتْ رَايَتُهُ فِي الكَوْنِ مَنْشُورَةً عَلَى مَرِّ الأَيَّامِ وَالشُّهُورِ وَالسِّنِينَ
Wa-lākin hazzanī ilā tadwīni mā ḥafiẓtuhu min siyari ashrafi l-makhlūqīn
wa-mā akramahu Llāhu bihi fī mawlidihi min al-faḍli lladhī ʿamma l-ʿālamīn
wa-baqiyat rāyatuhu fī l-kawni manshūratan ʿalā marri l-ayyāmi wa-l-shuhūri wa-l-sinīn.
Yet what stirred me toward setting down what I have preserved of the life-accounts of the Noblest of Creation —
and of what God honoured him with at his birth, from the bounty that encompassed all the worlds,
whose banner has remained unfurled throughout the universe across the passage of days, months, and years —.
دَاعِي التَّعَلُّقِ بِهَذِهِ الحَضْرَةِ الكَرِيمَةِ
وَلَاعِجُ التَّشَوُّقِ إِلَى سَمَاعِ أَوْصَافِهَا العَظِيمَةِ
Dāʿī l-taʿalluqi bi-hādhihi l-ḥaḍrati l-karīma
wa-lāʿiju l-tashawwuqi ilā samāʿi awṣāfihā l-ʿaẓīma.
was the call of attachment to this Noble Presence,
and the burning ache of longing to hear of the tremendous qualities (of this Noble Presence).
وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ يَنْفَعُ بِهِ المُتَكَلِّمَ وَالسَّامِعَ
فَيَدْخُلَانِ فِي شَفَاعَةِ هَذَا النَّبِيِّ الشَّافِعِ
Wa-laʿalla Llāha yanfaʿu bihi l-mutakallima wa-l-sāmiʿ
fa-yadkhulāni fī shafāʿati hādhā l-nabiyyi l-shāfiʿ.
And perhaps God will benefit through it both the one who speaks and the one who listens,
so that both may enter into the intercession of this Prophet, the Intercessor,
وَيَتَرَوَّحَانِ بِرَوْحِ ذَلِكَ النَّعِيمِ
Wa-yatarawwaḥāni bi-rawḥi dhālika l-naʿīm.
and find rest in the gentle breeze of that Bliss
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ

وَقَدْ آنَ لِلْقَلَمِ أَنْ يَخُطَّ مَا حَرَّكَتْهُ فِيهِ الأَنَامِلُ
مِمَّا اسْتَفَادَهُ الفَهْمُ مِنْ صِفَاتِ هَذَا العَبْدِ المَحْبُوبِ الكَامِلِ
وَشَمَائِلِهِ الَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ الشَّمَائِلِ
Wa-qad āna li-l-qalami an yakhuṭṭa mā ḥarrakathu fīhi l-anāmilmimmā stafādahu l-fahmu min ṣifāti hādhā l-ʿabdi l-maḥbūbi l-kāmil
wa-shamāʾilihi llatī hiya aḥsanu l-shamāʾil.
The time has come for the pen to set down what the fingertips have stirred within it —
from what the understanding has gathered of the qualities of this beloved, Perfect Servant,
and of his noble traits, which are the finest of all traits.
وَهُنَا حَسُنَ أَنْ نُثْبِتَ مَا بَلَغَ إِلَيْنَا فِي شَأْنِ هَذَا الحَبِيبِ مِنْ أَخْبَارٍ وَآثَارٍ
لِيَتَشَرَّفَ بِكِتَابَتِهِ القَلَمُ وَالقِرْطَاسُ، وَتَتَنَزَّهَ فِي حَدَائِقِهِ الأَسْمَاعُ وَالأَبْصَارُ.
Wa-hunā ḥasuna an nuthbita mā balagha ilaynā fī shaʾni hādhā l-ḥabībi min akhbārin wa-āthār
li-yatasharrafa bi-kitābatihi l-qalamu wa-l-qirṭās, wa-tatanazzaha fī ḥadāʾiqihi l-asmāʿu wa-l-abṣār.
It is fitting here that we record what has reached us concerning this Beloved, of reports and traditions,
so that pen and parchment may be honoured by their inscription, and so that the ears and eyes may take their pleasure strolling through his gardens.
وَقَدْ بَلَغَنَا فِي الأَحَادِيثِ المَشْهُورَةِ
أَنَّ أَوَّلَ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ اللَّهُ هُوَ النُّورُ المُودَعُ فِي هَذِهِ الصُّورَةِ
Wa-qad balaghanā fī l-aḥādīthi l-mashhūra
anna awwala shayʾin khalaqahu Llāhu huwa l-nūru l-mūdaʿu fī hādhihi l-ṣūra.
O It has reached us through the well-known traditions
that the first thing God created was the Light deposited within this form.
فَنُورُ هَذَا الحَبِيبِ أَوَّلُ مَخْلُوقٍ بَرَزَ فِي العَالَمِ
وَمِنْهُ تَفَرَّعَ الوُجُودُ خَلْقًا بَعْدَ خَلْقٍ فِيمَا حَدَثَ وَمَا تَقَادَمَ
Fa-nūru hādhā l-ḥabībi awwalu makhlūqin baraza fī l-ʿālam
wa-minhu tafarraʿa l-wujūdu khalqan baʿda khalqin fī-mā ḥadatha wa-mā taqādam.
The light of this beloved was the first created thing to emerge in the universe,
and from it existence branched forth, creation after creation, in all that came to be — ancient and recent alike.
وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ بِسَنَدِهِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي، أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ أَوَّلِ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ اللَّهُ قَبْلَ الأَشْيَاءِ
Wa-qad akhraja ʿAbdu l-Razzāqi bi-sanadihi ʿan Jābiri bni ʿAbdi Llāhi l-Anṣāriyyi raḍiya Llāhu ʿanhumā qāl: qultu: yā Rasūla Llāh, bi-abī wa-ummī, akhbirnī ʿan awwali shayʾin khalaqahu Llāhu qabla l-ashyāʾ
ʿAbd al-Razzāq has transmitted through his chain from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṣārī, may God be pleased with them both, who said: "I said, 'O Messenger of God — may my father and mother be your ransom — tell me of the first thing God created before all things.'
قَالَ: «يَا جَابِرُ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَلَقَ قَبْلَ الأَشْيَاءِ نُورَ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ — صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ — مِنْ نُورِهِ».
qāl: «Yā Jābir, inna Llāha khalaqa qabla l-ashyāʾi nūra nabiyyika Muḥammadin — ṣallā Llāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam — min nūrih.»
He said: 'O Jābir, God created before all things the light of your Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ from His own Light.'"
وَقَدْ وَرَدَ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ:
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «كُنْتُ أَوَّلَ النَّبِيِّينَ فِي الخَلْقِ، وَآخِرَهُمْ فِي البَعْثِ».
Wa-qad warada min ḥadīthi Abī Hurayrata raḍiya Llāhu ʿanhu annahu qāl
qāla Rasūlu Llāhi ṣallā Llāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam: «Kuntu awwala l-nabiyyīna fī l-khalq, wa-ākhirahum fī l-baʿth.»
And it has come to us from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayra, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "I was the first of the prophets in creation, and the last of them in being sent."
وَقَدْ تَعَدَّدَتِ الرِّوَايَاتُ بِأَنَّهُ أَوَّلُ الخَلْقِ وُجُودًا
وَأَشْرَفُهُمْ مَوْلُودًا
Wa-qad taʿaddadati l-riwāyātu bi-annahu awwalu l-khalqi wujūdan wa-ashrafuhum mawlūdā.
The narrations have multiplied confirming that he was the first of creation in existence
and the noblest of them in birth.
وَلَمَّا كَانَتِ السَّعَادَةُ الأَبَدِيَّةُ
لَهَا مُلَاحَظَةٌ خَفِيَّةٌ
اخْتَصَّتْ مَنْ شَاءَتْ مِنَ البَرِيَّةِ
بِكَمَالِ الخُصُوصِيَّةِ.
Wa-lammā kānati l-saʿādatu l-abadiyya
ahā mulāḥaẓatun khafiyya
ikhtaṣṣat man shāʾat min al-bariyya
bi-kamāli l-khuṣūṣiyya.
And since Eternal Felicity possesses a hidden regard —
singling out from among creation whomever it wills
with the fullness of special election
فَاسْتَوْدَعَتْ هَذَا النُّورَ المُبِينَ
أَصْلَابَ وَبُطُونَ مَنْ شَرَّفَتْهُ مِنَ العَالَمِينَ.
Fa-stawdaʿat hādhā l-nūra l-mubīn
aṣlāba wa-buṭūna man sharrafathu min al-ʿālamīn.
it entrusted this Manifest Light to the loins and wombs of those it had honoured from among all the worlds.
فَتَنَقَّلَ هَذَا النُّورُ مِنْ صُلْبِ آدَمَ وَنُوحٍ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ
حَتَّى أَوْصَلَتْهُ يَدُ العِلْمِ القَدِيمِ
إِلَى مَنْ خَصَّصَتْهُ بِالتَّكْرِيمِ، أَبِيهِ الكَرِيمِ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ المُطَّلِبِ ذِي القَدْرِ العَظِيمِ.
Fa-tanaqqala hādhā l-nūru min ṣulbi Ādama wa-Nūḥin wa-Ibrāhīm
ḥattā awṣalathu yadu l-ʿilmi l-qadīm
ilā man khaṣṣaṣathu bi-l-takrīmi abīhi l-karīm
ʿAbdi Llāhi bni ʿAbdi l-Muṭṭalibi dhī l-qadri l-ʿaẓīm.
This Light passed from the loins of Adam, then Noah, then Abraham, until the Hand of Pre-eternal Knowledge delivered it to the one it had singled out for honour — his noble father, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, the one of tremendous rank.
وَأُمِّهِ الَّتِي هِيَ فِي المَخَاوِفِ آمِنَةٌ
السَّيِّدَةِ الكَرِيمَةِ آمِنَةَ.
Wa-ummihi llatī hiya fī l-makhāwifi āmina
al-sayyidati l-karīmati Āmina.
And his mother — she who, amidst all fears, was a place of safety (āmina) —
the Noble Lady, Āmina.
فَتَلَقَّاهُ صُلْبُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فَأَلْقَاهُ إِلَى بَطْنِهَا
فَضَمَّتْهُ أَحْشَاؤُهَا بِمَعُونَةِ اللَّهِ مُحَافِظَةً عَلَى حَقِّ هَذِهِ الدُّرَّةِ وَصَوْنِهَا.
Fa-talaqqāhu ṣulbu ʿAbdi Llāhi fa-alqāhu ilā baṭnihā
fa-ḍammathu aḥshāʾuhā bi-maʿūnati Llāhi muḥāfiẓatan ʿalā ḥaqqi hādhihi l-durrati wa-ṣawnihā.
The loins of ʿAbd Allāh received it and cast it into her womb,
and her inner being clasped it with the aid of God, safeguarding the right of this Pearl and its protection.
فَحَمَلَتْهُ بِرِعَايَةِ اللَّهِ — كَمَا وَرَدَ عَنْهَا — حَمْلًا خَفِيفًا لَا تَجِدُ لَهُ ثِقَلًا
وَلَا تَشْكُو مِنْهُ أَلَمًا وَلَا عِلَلًا
Fa-ḥamalathu bi-riʿāyati Llāh — kamā warada ʿanhā — ḥamlan khafīfan lā tajidu lahu thiqalan
wa-lā tashkū minhu alaman wa-lā ʿilalā.
She carried him — under God's watchful care, as has been reported from her — a light carrying, finding in it no heaviness, suffering from it neither pain nor ailment
حَتَّى مَرَّ الشَّهْرُ بَعْدَ الشَّهْرِ مِنْ حَمْلِهِ
وَقَرُبَ وَقْتُ بُرُوزِهِ إِلَى عَالَمِ الشَّهَادَةِ
لِتَنْبَسِطَ عَلَى أَهْلِ هَذَا العَالَمِ فُيُوضَاتُ فَضْلِهِ
Ḥattā marra l-shahru baʿda l-shahri min ḥamlihi
wa-qaruba waqtu burūzihi ilā ʿālami l-shahāda;
li-tanbasiṭa ʿalā ahli hādhā l-ʿālami fuyūḍātu faḍlih.
Month after month of the pregnancy passed,
until the time of his emergence into the world of visible creation drew near —
so that the overflowing graces of his bounty might spread upon the people of this world,
وَتَنْتَشِرَ فِيهِ آثَارُ مَجْدِهِ الصَّمِيمِ
Wa-tantashira fīhi āthāru majdihi l-ṣamīm.
and the traces of his deep-rooted glory might be made manifest throughout it.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family.
وَمُنْذُ عَلِقَتْ بِهِ هَذِهِ الدُّرَّةُ المَكْنُونَةُ
وَالجَوْهَرَةُ المَصُونَةُ
Wa-mundhu ʿaliqat bihi hādhihi l-durratu l-maknūna
wa-l-jawharatu l-maṣūna.
From the moment this hidden pearl and this safeguarded jewel clung to her,
وَالكَوْنُ كُلُّهُ يُصْبِحُ وَيُمْسِي فِي سُرُورٍ وَابْتِهَاجٍ
بِقُرْبِ ظُهُورِ إِشْرَاقِ هَذَا السِّرَاجِ
Wa-l-kawnu kulluhu yuṣbiḥu wa-yumsī fī surūrin wa-btihāj
bi-qurbi ẓuhūri ishrāqi hādhā l-sirāj.
the entire universe rose each morning and settled each evening in joy and elation, at the nearness of the radiance of this Lamp breaking forth.
وَالعُيُونُ مُتَشَوِّفَةٌ إِلَى بُرُوزِهِ
مُتَشَوِّقَةٌ إِلَى التِقَاطِ جَوَاهِرِ كُنُوزِهِ
Wa-l-ʿuyūnu mutashawwifatun ilā burūzihi
mutashawwiqatun ilā ltiqāṭi jawāhiri kunūzih.
All eyes were craning toward his emergence, yearning to gather the gems of his treasures.
وَكُلُّ دَابَّةٍ لِقُرَيْشٍ نَطَقَتْ بِفَصِيحِ العِبَارَةِ
مُعْلِنَةً بِكَمَالِ البِشَارَةِ
Wa-kullu dābbatin li-Qurayshin naṭaqat bi-faṣīḥi l-ʿibāra
muʿlinatan bi-kamāli l-bishāra.
Every beast belonging to Quraysh spoke in clear, eloquent speech, proclaiming the fullness of the glad tidings.
وَمَا مِنْ حَامِلٍ حَمَلَتْ فِي ذَلِكَ العَامِ
إِلَّا أَتَتْ فِي حَمْلِهَا بِغُلَامٍ
مِنْ بَرَكَاتِ وَسَعَادَةِ هَذَا الإِمَامِ
Wa-mā min ḥāmilin ḥamalat fī dhālika l-ʿām
illā atat fī ḥamlihā bi-ghulām
min barakāti wa-saʿādati hādhā l-imām.
And not a single pregnant woman carried that year but that she brought forth a boy in her pregnancy — from the blessings and felicity of this Leader.
وَلَمْ تَزَلِ الأَرْضُ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ
مُتَضَمِّخَةً بِعِطْرِ الفَرَحِ بِمُلَاقَاةِ أَشْرَفِ البَرِيَّاتِ
Wa-lam tazali l-arḍu wa-l-samāwāt
mutaḍammikhatan bi-ʿiṭri l-faraḥi bi-mulāqāti ashrafi l-bariyyāt.
The earth and the heavens did not cease to be anointed
with the perfume of joy at the meeting of the Noblest of all Creatures,
وَبُرُوزِهِ مِنْ عَالَمِ الخَفَاءِ إِلَى عَالَمِ الظُّهُورِ
بَعْدَ تَنَقُّلِهِ فِي البُطُونِ وَالظُّهُورِ.
Wa-burūzihi min ʿālami l-khafāʾi ilā ʿālami l-ẓuhūr
baʿda tanaqqullihi fī l-buṭūni wa-l-ẓuhūr.
and at his coming forth from the World of Concealment into the World of Manifestation,
after his passage through the wombs and the loins.
فَأَظْهَرَ اللَّهُ فِي الوُجُودِ بَهْجَةَ التَّكْرِيمِ
وَبَسَطَ فِي العَالَمِ الكَبِيرِ مَائِدَةَ التَّشْرِيفِ وَالتَّعْظِيمِ
بِبُرُوزِ هَذَا البَشَرِ الكَرِيمِ
Fa-aẓhara Llāhu fī l-wujūdi bahjata l-takrīm
wa-basaṭa fī l-ʿālami l-kabīri māʾidata l-tashrīfi wa-l-taʿẓīm
bi-burūzi hādhā l-bashari l-karīm.
God made manifest in existence the splendour of Honouring,
and spread out across the Great World the table of Ennoblement and Glorification —
through the emergence of this Noble Human Being.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family.
فَحِينَ قَرُبَ أَوَانُ وَضْعِ هَذَا الحَبِيبِ
أَعْلَنَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالأَرَضُونَ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ بِالتَّرْحِيبِ
Fa-ḥīna qaruba awānu waḍʿi hādhā l-ḥabīb
aʿlanati l-samāwātu wa-l-araḍūna wa-man fīhinna bi-l-tarḥīb.
When the time of the delivery of this beloved drew near,
the heavens and the earths and all who dwell in them proclaimed their welcome.
وَأَمْطَارُ الجُودِ الإِلَهِيِّ عَلَى أَهْلِ الوُجُودِ تَثِجُّ
وَأَلْسِنَةُ المَلَائِكَةِ بِالتَّبْشِيرِ لِلْعَالَمِينَ تَعِجُّ
Wa-amṭāru l-jūdi l-ilāhiyyi ʿalā ahli l-wujūdi tathijj
wa-alsinatu l-malāʾikati bi-l-tabshīri li-l-ʿālamīna taʿijj.
The rains of Divine Generosity poured down torrentially upon the people of existence,
and the tongues of the angels resounded with glad tidings for all the worlds.
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ وَلَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ (x 3)
Subḥāna Llāhi wa-l-ḥamdu li-Llāhi wa-lā ilāha illā Llāhu wa-Llāhu akbar (three times)
wa-alsinatu l-malāʾikati bi-l-tabshīri li-l-ʿālamīna taʿijj.
Glory be to God, and all praise belongs to God, and there is no god but God, and God is the Greatest.
وَالقُدْرَةُ كَشَفَتْ قِنَاعَ هَذَا المَسْتُورِ
لِيَبْرُزَ نُورُهُ كَامِلًا فِي عَالَمِ الظُّهُورِ
نُورًا فَاقَ كُلَّ نُورٍ
Wa-l-qudratu kashafat qināʿa hādhā l-mastūrli-yabruza nūruhu kāmilan fī ʿālami l-ẓuhūr
nūran fāqa kulla nūr.
The Divine Power lifted the veil from this hidden one,
so that his light might emerge in full within the World of Manifestation —
a light that surpassed every other light.
وَأَنْفَذَ الحَقُّ حُكْمَهُ
عَلَى مَنْ أَتَمَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ النِّعْمَةَ
مِنْ خَوَاصِّ الأُمَّةِ
أَنْ يَحْضُرَ عِنْدَ وَضْعِهِ أُمَّهُ
Wa-anfadha l-Ḥaqqu ḥukmah
ʿalā man atamma Llāhu ʿalayhi l-niʿma
min khawāṣṣi l-umma
an yaḥḍura ʿinda waḍʿihi ummuh.
The Real enacted His decree
upon those from among the elect of the umma upon whom God had completed His blessing:
that they should be present at the moment of his mother's delivery —
تَأْنِيسًا لِجَنَابِهَا المَسْعُودِ
وَمُشَارَكَةً لَهَا فِي هَذَا السِّمَاطِ المَمْدُودِ
Taʾnīsan li-janābihā l-masʿūdwa-mushārakatan lahā fī hādhā l-simāṭi l-mamdūd.
as a comfort to her blessed person,
and as a sharing with her in this outstretched banquet.
فَحَضَرَتْ بِتَوْفِيقِ اللَّهِ السَّيِّدَةُ مَرْيَمُ وَالسَّيِّدَةُ آسِيَةُ
وَمَعَهُمَا مِنَ الحُورِ العِينِ مَنْ قَسَمَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مِنَ الشَّرَفِ بِالقِسْمَةِ الوَافِيَةِ
Fa-ḥaḍarat bi-tawfīqi Llāhi l-sayyidatu Maryamu wa-l-sayyidatu Āsiyawa-maʿahumā min al-ḥūri l-ʿīni man qasama Llāh lahu min al-sharafi bi-l-qismati l-wāfiya.
There appeared, by God's grace, the Lady Maryam and the Lady Āsiya,
and with them, from among the wide-eyed maidens of Paradise, those to whom God had apportioned a full share of honour.
فَأَتَى الوَقْتُ الَّذِي رَتَّبَ اللَّهُ عَلَى حُضُورِهِ وُجُودَ هَذَا المَوْلُودِ
فَانْفَلَقَ صُبْحُ الكَمَالِ مِنَ النُّورِ عَنْ عَمُودٍ
وَبَرَزَ الحَامِدُ المَحْمُودُ
مُذْعِنًا لِلَّهِ بِالتَّعْظِيمِ وَالسُّجُودِ
Fa-atā l-waqtu lladhī rattaba Llāhu ʿalā ḥuḍūrihi wujūda hādhā l-mawlūdfa-nfalaqa ṣubḥu l-kamāli min al-nūri ʿan ʿamūd
wa-baraza l-Ḥāmidu l-Maḥmūd
mudhʿinan li-Llāhi bi-l-taʿẓīmi wa-l-sujūd.
Then came the moment upon whose arrival God had ordained the existence of this newborn. The dawn of Perfection broke from the Light in a column, and the praiser, the praised one came forth — bowing before God in glorification and prostration.
صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ * صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ * صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
May Allah send salawat upon Muhammad(ﷺ),
May Allah bless him(ﷺ) and grant him (ﷺ)peace. (x2)
يَانَبِي سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَارَسُوْلْ سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَاحَبِيْب سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ
Yā Nabī salām ʿalaykYā Rasūl salām ʿalayk
Yā Ḥabīb salām ʿalayk
Yā Rasūla Allāhi
ṣalawātu Allāhi ʿalayk
O Prophet(ﷺ), peace be upon you; O Messenger(ﷺ), peace be upon you
O beloved (ﷺ), peace be upon you; Salawat of Allah be upon you
يَانَبِي سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَارَسُوْلْ سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَاحَبِيْب سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ
Yā Nabī salām ʿalaykYā Rasūl salām ʿalayk
Yā Ḥabīb salām ʿalayk
Yā Rasūla Allāhi
ṣalawātu Allāhi ʿalayk
O Prophet(ﷺ), peace be upon you; O Messenger(ﷺ), peace be upon you
O beloved (ﷺ), peace be upon you; Salawat of Allah be upon you
اَشْرَقَ الْكَوْنُ ابْتِهَاجَا
بِوُجُوْدِ الْمُصْطَفَى اَحْمَدْ
وَلِاَهْلِ الْكَوْنِ اُنْسُ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
وَسُرُوْرٌ قَدْ تَجَدَّدْ
bi-wujūdi al-Muṣṭafā Aḥmad
Wa li-ahli al-kawni unsun
yā Rasūla Allāhi
wa surūrun qad tajaddad
The universe shines joyfully
with the existence of the Chosen One, Ahmad.
And for the inhabitants of the universe, a companionship,O Messenger(ﷺ),
and a joy that has been renewed.
يَانَبِي سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَارَسُوْلْ سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَاحَبِيْب سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ
Yā Nabī salām ʿalaykYā Rasūl salām ʿalayk
Yā Ḥabīb salām ʿalayk
Yā Rasūla Allāhi
ṣalawātu Allāhi ʿalayk
O Prophet(ﷺ), peace be upon you; O Messenger(ﷺ), peace be upon you
O beloved (ﷺ), peace be upon you; Salawat of Allah be upon you
فَاطْرَبُوْا يَااَهْلَ الْمَثَانِي
فَهَزَارُ الْيُمْنِ غَرَّدْ
وَاسْتَضِيْؤُا بِجَمَالِ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
فَاقَ فِى الْحُسْنِ تَفَرَّدْ
Fa-ṭrabū yā ahla al-mathānī
fa-hazāru al-yumni gharrad
Wa-staḍīʾū bi-jamālin
yā Rasūla Allāh
fāqa fī al-ḥusni tafarrad
So rejoice, O people of the Quran,
the birds are now chirping of glad-tidings
And be illuminated by a beauty
that excels in unmatched elegance.
يَانَبِي سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَارَسُوْلْ سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَاحَبِيْب سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ
Yā Nabī salām ʿalaykYā Rasūl salām ʿalayk
Yā Ḥabīb salām ʿalayk
Yā Rasūla Allāhi
ṣalawātu Allāhi ʿalayk
O Prophet(ﷺ), peace be upon you; O Messenger(ﷺ), peace be upon you
O beloved (ﷺ), peace be upon you; Salawat of Allah be upon you
وَلَنَا الْبُشْرَى بِسَعْدٍ
مُسْتَمِرٍ لَيْسَ يَنْفَدْ
حَيْثُ اُوْتِيْناَ عَطَاءً
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
جَمَعَ الْفَخْرَالْمُؤَبَّدْ
Wa lanā al-bushrā bi-saʿdin
mustamirrin laysa yanfad
Ḥaythu ūtīnā ʿaṭāʾan
yā Rasūla Allāhi
jamaʿa al-fakhra al-muʾabbad
And we have the good news of enduring happiness
that does not deplete.
Since we were given the gift
that gathered everlasting glory.
يَانَبِي سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَارَسُوْلْ سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَاحَبِيْب سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ
Yā Nabī salām ʿalaykYā Rasūl salām ʿalayk
Yā Ḥabīb salām ʿalayk
Yā Rasūla Allāhi
ṣalawātu Allāhi ʿalayk
O Prophet(ﷺ), peace be upon you; O Messenger(ﷺ), peace be upon you
O beloved (ﷺ), peace be upon you; Salawat of Allah be upon you
فَلِرَبِّي كُلُّ حَمْدٍ
جَلَّ اَنْ يَحْصُرَهُ الْعَدْ
اِذْحَبَانَا بِوُجُوْدِ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
اَلْمُصْطَفَى الْهَادِي مُحَمَّدْ
Fa-li-Rabbī kullu ḥamdin
jalla an yaḥṣurahu al-ʿadd
Idh ḥabānā bi-wujūdi
yā Rasūla Allāhi al-Muṣṭafā al-Hādī Muḥammad
So all praise to my Lord ,
too great to be encompassed by counting.
Since the chosen guide, Muhammad(ﷺ), has graced us with his being
يَانَبِي سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَارَسُوْلْ سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَاحَبِيْب سَلَام عَلَيْكَ
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ
Yā Nabī salām ʿalaykYā Rasūl salām ʿalayk
Yā Ḥabīb salām ʿalayk
Yā Rasūla Allāhi
ṣalawātu Allāhi ʿalayk
O Prophet(ﷺ), peace be upon you; O Messenger(ﷺ), peace be upon you
O beloved (ﷺ), peace be upon you; Salawat of Allah be upon you
مَرْحَبًا يَارَسُوْلَ اللهِ اَهْلًا
مَرْحَبًا بِكَ اِنَّا بِكَ نُسْعَدْ
Marḥaban yā Rasūla Allāhi ahlan marḥaban bika innā bika nusʿadWelcome, O Messenger of Allah(ﷺ), always, welcome, in your presence we are joyful.
مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا يَانُوْرَالْعَيْنِ
مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًاجَدَّ الْحُسَينِ
Marḥaban marḥaban yā Nūra al-ʿayn marḥaban marḥaban jadda al-ḤusaynWelcome, welcome, O light of the eye, welcome, grandfather of Husayn.
مَرْحَبًا وَبِجَاهِه يَااِلَهِي
مَرْحَبًا جُدْ وَبَلِّغْ كُلَّ مَقْصَدْ
Marḥaban wa bi-jāhihī yā Ilāhī marḥaban jud wa balligh kulla maqṣadWelcome, and by his (ﷺ) status, O my God, let us achieve every (good) purpose,
مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا يَانُوْرَالْعَيْنِ
مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًاجَدَّ الْحُسَينِ
Marḥaban marḥaban yā Nūra al-ʿayn marḥaban marḥaban jadda al-ḤusaynWelcome, welcome, O light of the eye, welcome, grandfather of Husayn.
وَاهْدِنَا نَهْجَ سَبِيْلِه مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا
كَيْ بِهِ نُسْعَدْ وَنُرْشَدْ مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا
Wa-hdinā nahja sabīlihī marḥaban marḥaban kay bihī nusʿad wa nurshad marḥaban marḥabanAnd (O Allah) guide us on his(ﷺ) path, so by it we are in bliss and guidance.
مَرْحَبًا يَانُوْرَالْعَيْنِ
مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًاجَدَّ الْحُسَينِ مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا
Marḥaban marḥaban yā Nūra al-ʿayn marḥaban marḥaban jadda al-ḤusaynWelcome, welcome, O light of the eye, welcome, grandfather of Husayn.
رَبِّ بَلِّغْنَا بِجَاهِه مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا
فِى جِوَارِه خَيْرَ مَقْعَدْ مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا
Rabbi ballighnā bi-jāhihī marḥaban marḥaban fī jiwārihī khayra maqʿad marḥaban marḥabanO Lord, we beseech you by his(ﷺ) status, grant us the best seat in his(ﷺ) vicinity
مَرْحَبًا يَانُوْرَالْعَيْنِ
مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًاجَدَّ الْحُسَينِ مَرْحَبًا مَرْحَبًا
Marḥaban marḥaban yā Nūra al-ʿayn marḥaban marḥaban jadda al-ḤusaynWelcome, welcome, O light of the eye, welcome, grandfather of Husayn.
وَصَلَاةُ اللهِ تَغْشَى * اَشْرَفَ الرُّسْلِ مُحَمَّدْ
Wa ṣalātu Allāhi taghshā * ashrafa al-rusli MuḥammadAnd may the salawat of Allah encompass the most noble of the messengers, Muhammad(ﷺ).
رَبِّ فَااغْفِرْلِي ذُنُوْبِي * بِبَرْكَةِ الْهَادِي مُحَمَّد
Rabbi fa-ghfir lī dhunūbī * bi-barakati al-Hādī MuḥammadLord, forgive me my sins, by the blessing of the guide, Muhammad(ﷺ).
وَسَلَامٌ مُسْتَمِرٌّ * كُلَّ حِيْنٍ يَتَجَدَّدْ
Wa salāmun mustamirrun * kulla ḥīnin yatajaddadAnd a continuous peace and calm that is renewed at every moment.
رَبِّ فَااغْفِرْلِي ذُنُوْبِي * بِبَرْكَةِ الْهَادِي مُحَمَّد
Rabbi fa-ghfir lī dhunūbī * bi-barakati al-Hādī MuḥammadLord, forgive me my sins, by the blessing of the guide, Muhammad(ﷺ).
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
وَحِينَ بَرَزَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ، بَرَزَ رَافِعًا طَرْفَهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ
مُومِئًا بِذَلِكَ الرَّفْعِ إِلَى أَنَّ لَهُ شَرَفًا عَلَا مَجْدُهُ وَسَمَا.
Wa ḥīna baraza ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam min baṭni ummihi… baraza rāfiʿan ṭarfahu ilā al-samāʾ,
mūmiyan bi-dhālika al-rafʿi ilā anna lahu sharafan ʿalā majduhu wa samā.
And when he, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, emerged from his mother's womb, he came forth with his gaze raised toward the sky,
gesturing with that upward glance toward the truth that his is a nobility whose glory has risen high and soared.
وَكَانَ وَقْتُ مَوْلِدِ سَيِّدِ الكَوْنَيْنِ
مِنَ الشُّهُورِ شَهْرَ رَبِيعِ الأَوَّلِ، وَمِنَ الأَيَّامِ يَوْمَ الِاثْنَيْنِ،
وَمَوْضِعُ وِلَادَتِهِ وَقَبْرِهِ بِالحَرَمَيْنِ.
Wa kāna waqtu mawlidi sayyidi al-kawnayn
min al-shuhūri shahru Rabīʿ al-Awwal, wa min al-ayyāmi yawmu al-Ithnayn,
wa mawḍiʿu wilādatihi wa qabrihi bi-l-Ḥaramayn.
The time of the birth of the Master of the Two Worlds was,
among the months, the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, and among the days, a Monday.
The place of his birth and his burial are both in the Two Sanctuaries.
وَقَدْ وَرَدَ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وُلِدَ مَخْتُونًا مَكْحُولًا مَقْطُوعَ السُّرَّةِ، تَوَلَّتْ ذَلِكَ لِشَرَفِهِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَيْدِي القُدْرَةِ.
Wa qad warida annahu ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam wulida makhtūnan makḥūlan maqṭūʿa al-surra,
tawallat dhālika li-sharafihi ʿinda Allāhi aydī al-qudra.
It has been narrated that he, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, was born already circumcised, with eyes lined as if with kohl, and with his umbilical cord already severed — the hands of Divine Power having attended to all of this in honour of his rank before God.
وَمَعَ بُرُوزِهِ إِلَى هَذَا العَالَمِ ظَهَرَ مِنَ العَجَائِبِ
مَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى أَنَّهُ أَشْرَفُ المَخْلُوقِينَ وَأَفْضَلُ الحَبَائِبِ.
Wa maʿa burūzihi ilā hādhā al-ʿālam ẓahara min al-ʿajāʾib
mā yadullu ʿalā annahu ashrafu al-makhlūqīn wa afḍalu al-ḥabāʾib.
And with his coming forth into this world, there appeared such wonders
as testify that he is the noblest of all creation and the most beloved of all the beloved.
فَقَدْ وَرَدَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أُمِّهِ الشِّفَاءِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَتْ: لَمَّا وَلَدَتْ آمِنَةُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَقَعَ عَلَى يَدَيَّ، فَاسْتَهَلَّ، فَسَمِعْتُ قَائِلًا يَقُولُ: رَحِمَكَ اللَّهُ، أَوْ: رَحِمَكَ رَبُّكَ.
قَالَتِ الشِّفَاءُ: فَأَضَاءَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَ المَشْرِقِ وَالمَغْرِبِ، حَتَّى نَظَرْتُ إِلَى بَعْضِ قُصُورِ الرُّومِ.
قَالَتْ: ثُمَّ أَلْبَسْتُهُ وَأَضْجَعْتُهُ، فَلَمْ أَنْشَبْ أَنْ غَشِيَنِي ظُلْمَةٌ وَرُعْبٌ وَقَشْعَرِيرَةٌ عَنْ يَمِينِي، فَسَمِعْتُ قَائِلًا يَقُولُ: أَيْنَ ذَهَبْتَ بِهِ؟ قَالَ: إِلَى المَغْرِبِ.
وَأَسْفَرَ ذَلِكَ عَنِّي، ثُمَّ عَاوَدَنِي الرُّعْبُ وَالظُّلْمَةُ وَالقَشْعَرِيرَةُ عَنْ يَسَارِي، فَسَمِعْتُ قَائِلًا يَقُولُ: أَيْنَ ذَهَبْتَ بِهِ؟ قَالَ: إِلَى المَشْرِقِ.
قَالَتْ: فَلَمْ يَزَلِ الحَدِيثُ مِنِّي عَلَى بَالٍ حَتَّى ابْتَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ، فَكُنْتُ مِنْ أَوَّلِ النَّاسِ إِسْلَامًا.
Fa-qad warida ʿan ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf ʿan ummihi al-Shifāʾ raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhumā, qālat: lammā waladat Āmina raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā Rasūla Allāhi ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam… waqaʿa ʿalā yadayya, fa-stahall, fa-samiʿtu qāʾilan yaqūl: raḥimaka Allāh, aw: raḥimaka Rabbuk.
Qālat al-Shifāʾ: fa-aḍāʾa lahu mā bayna al-mashriqi wa al-maghrib, ḥattā naẓartu ilā baʿḍi quṣūri al-Rūm.
Qālat: thumma albastuhu wa aḍjaʿtuhu, fa-lam anshab an ghashiyanī ẓulmatun wa ruʿbun wa qashʿarīra ʿan yamīnī, fa-samiʿtu qāʾilan yaqūl: ayna dhahabta bihi?
Qāla: ilā al-maghrib.
Wa asfara dhālika ʿannī, thumma ʿāwadanī al-ruʿbu wa al-ẓulmatu wa al-qashʿarīra ʿan yasārī,
fa-samiʿtu qāʾilan yaqūl: ayna dhahabta bihi? Qāla: ilā al-mashriq. Qālat: fa-lam yazal al-ḥadīthu minnī ʿalā bālin ḥattā ibtaʿathahu Allāh, fa-kuntu min awwali al-nāsi islāmā.
It has been narrated through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, from his mother al-Shifāʾ, may God be pleased with them both, who said: "When Āmina, may God be pleased with her, gave birth to the Messenger of God, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, he fell into my hands, and he let out his first cry. Then I heard a voice saying: 'May God have mercy on you' — or: 'May your Lord have mercy on you.'" Al-Shifāʾ said: "Then there shone for him a light illuminating everything between the east and the west, until I could see some of the palaces of Byzantium." She said: "Then I clothed him and laid him down, and before long I was overtaken by a darkness, a dread, and a shudder from my right side. I heard a voice saying: 'Where have you taken him?' The reply came: 'To the west.' And that [darkness] lifted from me. Then the dread, the darkness, and the shudder returned, this time from my left side. I heard a voice saying: 'Where have you taken him?' The reply came: 'To the east.'" She said: "This account never left my mind until God raised him as a Prophet, and I was among the first of people to embrace Islam."
وَكَمْ تَرْجَمَتِ السُّنَّةُ مِنْ عَظِيمِ المُعْجِزَاتِ، وَبَاهِرِ الآيَاتِ البَيِّنَاتِ،
بِمَا يَقْضِي بِعَظِيمِ شَرَفِهِ عِنْدَ مَوْلَاهُ، وَأَنَّ عَيْنَ عِنَايَتِهِ فِي كُلِّ حِينٍ تَرْعَاهُ،
وَأَنَّهُ الهَادِي إِلَى الصِّرَاطِ المُسْتَقِيمِ.
Wa kam tarjamat al-sunnatu min ʿaẓīmi al-muʿjizāt, wa bāhiri al-āyāti
al-bayyināt. Bi-mā yaqḍī bi-ʿaẓīmi sharafihi ʿinda Mawlāh, wa anna
ʿayna ʿināyatihi fī kulli ḥīnin tarʿāh.
Wa annahu al-Hādī ilā al-Ṣirāṭ al-Mustaqīm.
And how abundantly has the Prophetic tradition conveyed accounts of tremendous miracles and radiant, manifest signs —all of which attest to the greatness of his honour before his Lord, and that the eye of God's care watches over him at every moment,
and that he is the Guide to the Straight Path.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family.
وَلَقَدِ اتَّصَفَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ مَحَاسِنِ الأَخْلَاقِ،
بِمَا تَضِيقُ عَنْ كِتَابَتِهِ بُطُونُ الأَوْرَاقِ.
bi-mā taḍīqu ʿan kitābatihi buṭūnu al-awrāq.
He, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, was adorned with such beauties of character that the pages of all books would be too narrow to contain their description.
كَانَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحْسَنَ النَّاسِ خُلُقًا وَخَلْقًا،
وَأَوَّلَهُمْ إِلَى مَكَارِمِ الأَخْلَاقِ سَبْقًا، وَأَوْسَعَهُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ حِلْمًا وَرِفْقًا.
Kāna ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam aḥsana al-nāsi khuluqan wa khalqan,wa awwalahum ilā makārimi al-akhlāqi sabqan, wa awsaʿahum bi-l-muʾminīna ḥilman wa rifqan.
He was, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, the finest of people in both his inner character and his outward form,
بَرًّا رَؤُوفًا، لَا يَقُولُ وَلَا يَفْعَلُ إِلَّا مَعْرُوفًا.
He was righteous and tender-hearted, never speaking or acting except with what was good and honourable.
لَهُ الخُلُقُ السَّهْلُ، وَاللَّفْظُ المُحْتَوِي عَلَى المَعْنَى الجَزْلِ.
إِذَا دَعَاهُ المِسْكِينُ أَجَابَهُ إِجَابَةً مُعَجَّلَةً.
وَهُوَ الأَبُ الشَّفِيقُ الرَّحِيمُ بِاليَتِيمِ وَالأَرْمَلَةِ.
Wa huwa al-abu al-shafīqu al-raḥīmu bi-l-yatīmi wa al-armala.
When a person in need called upon him, he answered without delay.
He was the compassionate, merciful father to the orphan and the widow.
وَلَهُ مَعَ سُهُولَةِ أَخْلَاقِهِ الهَيْبَةُ القَوِيَّةُ
الَّتِي تَرْتَعِدُ مِنْهَا فَرَائِصُ الأَقْوِيَاءِ مِنَ البَرِيَّةِ
allatī tartaʿidu minhā farāʾiṣu al-aqwiyāʾi min al-bariyya.
And alongside the gentleness of his character, he possessed a commanding awe
before which the limbs of the mightiest among creation would tremble.
وَمِنْ نَشْرِ طِيبِهِ تَعَطَّرَتِ الطُّرُقُ وَالمَنَازِلُ،
وَبِعَرْفِ ذِكْرِهِ تَطَيَّبَتِ المَجَالِسُ وَالمَحَافِلُ.
wa bi-ʿarfi dhikrihi taṭayyabat al-majālisu wa al-maḥāfil.
From the spreading of his fragrance, the roads and dwellings were perfumed,
and by the sweet scent of his remembrance, the gatherings and assemblies were made fragrant.
فَهُوَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَامِعُ الصِّفَاتِ الكَمَالِيَّةِ،
وَالمُنْفَرِدُ فِي خَلْقِهِ وَخُلُقِهِ بِأَشْرَفِ خُصُوصِيَّةٍ.
Fa-huwa ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam jāmiʿu al-ṣifāti al-kamāliyya, wa al-munfaridu fī khalqihi wa khuluqihi bi-ashrafi khuṣūṣiyya.
He, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, is the one who unites within himself all qualities of perfection, singular in his outward form and his inner character with the noblest distinction.
فَمَا مِنْ خُلُقٍ فِي البَرِيَّةِ مَحْمُودٍ، إِلَّا وَهُوَ مُتَلَقًّى عَنْ زَيْنِ الوُجُودِ.
Fa-mā min khuluqin fī al-bariyyati maḥmūd, illā wa huwa mutalaqqqan ʿan Zayni al-Wujūd.
There is no praiseworthy trait among all of creation save that it has been received from the Adornment of Existence.
أَجْمَلْتُ فِي وَصْفِ الحَبِيبِ وَشَأْنِهِ، وَلَهُ العُلَا فِي مَجْدِهِ وَمَكَانِهِ.
أَوْصَافُ عِزٍّ قَدْ تَعَالَى مَجْدُهَا، أَخَذَتْ عَلَى نَجْمِ السُّهَا بِعِنَانِهِ.
Ajmaltu fī waṣfi al-Ḥabībi wa shaʾnih, wa lahu al-ʿulā fī majdihi wa makānih.
Awṣāfu ʿizzin qad taʿālā majduhā, akhadhat ʿalā najmi al-Suhā bi-ʿinānih.
I have spoken in summary of the Beloved and his station, and his is the loftiness in his glory and his rank.
These are descriptions of honour whose majesty has risen high —they have seized even the faintest star by its reins.
وَقَدِ انْبَسَطَ القَلَمُ فِي تَدْوِينِ مَا أَفَادَهُ العِلْمُ مِنْ وَقَائِعِ مَوْلِدِ النَّبِيِّ الكَرِيمِ،
وَحِكَايَةِ مَا أَكْرَمَ اللَّهُ بِهِ هَذَا العَبْدَ المُقَرَّبَ مِنَ التَّكْرِيمِ وَالتَّعْظِيمِ وَالخُلُقِ العَظِيمِ.
Wa qad inbasaṭa al-qalamu fī tadwīni mā afādahu al-ʿilmu min waqāʾiʿi mawlidi al-Nabiyyi al-Karīm,
wa ḥikāyati mā akrama Allāhu bihi hādhā al-ʿAbda al-Muqarraba min al-takrīmi wa al-taʿẓīmi wa al-khuluqi al-ʿaẓīm.
The pen has spread itself in setting down what knowledge has conveyed of the events of the birth of the Noble Prophet, and the account of what God bestowed upon this favoured servant of honour, veneration, and magnificent character.
فَحَسُنَ مِنِّي أَنْ أُمْسِكَ أَعِنَّةَ الأَقْلَامِ فِي هَذَا المَقَامِ، وَأَقْرَأَ السَّلَامَ عَلَى سَيِّدِ الأَنَامِ.
Fa-ḥasuna minnī an umsika aʿinnata al-aqlāmi fī hādhā al-maqām,
wa aqraʾa al-salāma ʿalā Sayyidi al-Anām.
It is fitting, then, that I rein in the pens at this point,
and offer greetings of peace upon the Master of All Creation.
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ. ×٣
Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of God and His blessings. (three times)
وَبِذَلِكَ يَحْسُنُ الخَتْمُ كَمَا يَحْسُنُ التَّقْدِيمُ.
فَعَلَيْهِ أَفْضَلُ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ.
Wa bi-dhālika yaḥsunu al-khatmu kamā yaḥsunu al-taqdīm.
Fa-ʿalayhi afḍalu al-ṣalāti wa al-taslīm.
And with that, the closing is made beautiful, just as the opening was made beautiful.
Upon him be the finest of blessings and peace.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
قِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ، قِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ،
قَوْلًا بِمَعْنَاهُ تَهِيمُ
Qif wa-stamiʿnī yā nadīm, qawlan bi-maʿnāhu tahīm
Pause and hear me, O companion — words whose meaning will leave you lost in wonder.
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
Ḥamalat bi-Aḥmada ummuh, wa al-saʿdu kāna lahā khadīmقِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ، قِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ،
قَوْلًا بِمَعْنَاهُ تَهِيمُ
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
Qif wa-stamiʿnī yā nadīm, qawlan bi-maʿnāhu tahīmPause and hear me, O companion — words whose meaning will leave you lost in wonder.
حَمَلَتْ بِأَزْكَى الأَنْبِيَاءِ، حَمَلَتْ بِأَزْكَى الأَنْبِيَاءِ،
نَسَبًا وَهَنَاهَا الكَرِيمُ
بُشْرَاكِ آمِنَةَ الرِّضَا، بُشْرَاكِ آمِنَةَ الرِّضَا،
بُشْرَاكِ آمِنَةَ الرِّضَا،بُشْرَاكِ آمِنَةَ الرِّضَا،
بِمُحَمَّدٍ عَيْنِ النَّعِيمِ
بُشْرَاكِ آمِنَةَ الرِّضَا،
بِمُحَمَّدٍ عَيْنِ النَّعِيمِ
Bushrāki Āminata al-Riḍā, bi-Muḥammadin ʿayni al-naʿīmGlad tidings to you, Āmina of contentment, for Muḥammad is the very essence of bliss.
قِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ، قِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ،
قَوْلًا بِمَعْنَاهُ تَهِيمُ
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
Qif wa-stamiʿnī yā nadīm, qawlan bi-maʿnāhu tahīmPause and hear me, O companion — words whose meaning will leave you lost in wonder.
يَا فَوْزَهَا بِالمُصْطَفَى، يَا فَوْزَهَا بِالمُصْطَفَى
حَازَتْ بِهِ شَرَفًا عَظِيم
Yā fawzahā bi-l-Muṣṭafā, ḥāzat bihi sharafan ʿaẓīm
What a triumph is hers through the Chosen One — through him she attained a magnificent honour.
نَالَتْ بِهِ كُلَّ المُنَى، نَالَتْ بِهِ كُلَّ المُنَى،
نَالَتْ بِهِ كُلَّ المُنَى، نَالَتْ بِهِ كُلَّ المُنَى،
وَالعِزَّ وَالمَجْدَ القَوِيمَ
نَالَتْ بِهِ كُلَّ المُنَى، نَالَتْ بِهِ كُلَّ المُنَى،
وَالعِزَّ وَالمَجْدَ القَوِيمَ
Nālat bihi kulla al-munā, wa al-ʿizza wa al-majda al-qawīmThrough him she received all that the heart could wish for, and glory, and upright majesty.
قِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ، قِفْ وَاسْتَمِعْنِي يَا نَدِيمُ،
قَوْلًا بِمَعْنَاهُ تَهِيمُ
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
حَمَلَتْ بِأَحْمَدَ أُمُّهُ، وَالسَّعْدُ كَانَ لَهَا خَدِيم
Qif wa-stamiʿnī yā nadīm, qawlan bi-maʿnāhu tahīm
Pause and hear me, O companion — words whose meaning will leave you lost in wonder.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وسَلّمْ وبَارِكْ عَلَى سيّدنا مُحَمد وَعَلَى آلِ سيّدنا مُحَمد
Bismi llāhi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīmi
وَلَمَّا نَظَمَ الْفِكْرُ مِنْ دَرَارِيِّ الْأَوْصَافِ الْمُحَمَّدِيَّةِ عُقُودًا، تَوَجَّهْتُ إِلَى اللَّهِ مُتَوَسِّلًا بِسَيِّدِي وَحَبِيبِي مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ سَعْيِي فِيهِ مَشْكُورًا وَفِعْلِي فِيهِ مَحْمُودًا، وَأَنْ يَكْتُبَ عَمَلِي فِي الْأَعْمَالِ الْمَقْبُولَةِ، وَتَوَجُّهِي فِي التَّوَجُّهَاتِ الْخَالِصَةِ وَالصَّلَوَاتِ الْمَوْصُولَةِ.
اللَّهُمَّ يَا مَنْ إِلَيْهِ تَتَوَجَّهُ الْآمَالُ فَتَعُودُ ظَافِرَةً، وَعَلَى بَابِ عِزِّهِ تَحُطُّ الرِّحَالُ فَتَغْشَاهَا مِنْهُ الْفُيُوضَاتُ الْعَامِرَةُ، نَتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ بِأَشْرَفِ الْوَسَائِلِ لَدَيْكَ، سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ، عَبْدِكَ الصَّادِقِ الْأَمِينِ، سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الَّذِي عَمَّتْ رِسَالَتُهُ الْعَالَمِينَ، أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ وَتُسَلِّمَ عَلَى تِلْكَ الذَّاتِ الْكَامِلَةِ، مُسْتَوْدَعِ أَمَانَتِكَ، وَحَفِيظِ سِرِّكَ، وَحَامِلِ رَايَةِ دَعْوَتِكَ الشَّامِلَةِ، الْأَبِ الْأَكْبَرِ، الْمَحْبُوبِ لَكَ، وَالْمُتَخَصَّصِ بِالشَّرَفِ الْأَفْخَرِ، فِي كُلِّ مَوْطِنٍ مِنْ مَوَاطِنِ الْقُرْبِ وَمَظْهَرٍ، قَاسِمِ إِمْدَادِكَ فِي عِبَادِكَ، وَسَاقِي كُؤُوسِ إِرْشَادِكَ لِأَهْلِ وِدَادِكَ، سَيِّدِ الْكَوْنَيْنِ، وَأَشْرَفِ الثَّقَلَيْنِ، الْعَبْدِ الْمَحْبُوبِ الْخَالِصِ الْمَخْصُوصِ مِنْكَ بِأَجَلِّ الْخَصَائِصِ.
Allāhumma yā man ilayhi tatawajjahu al-āmālu fa-taʿūdu ẓāfira, wa ʿalā bābi ʿizzihi taḥuṭṭu al-riḥālu fa-taghshāhā minhu al-fuyūḍātu al-ʿāmira, natawajjahu ilayka bi-ashrafi al-wasāʾili ladayk, Sayyidi al-Mursalīn, ʿabdika al-Ṣādiqi al-Amīn, Sayyidinā Muḥammad alladhī ʿammat risālatuhu al-ʿālamīn, an tuṣalliya wa tusallima ʿalā tilka al-Dhāti al-Kāmila, mustawdaʿa amānatik, wa ḥafīẓa sirrik, wa ḥāmila rāyati daʿwatika al-shāmila, al-Aba al-Akbar, al-Maḥbūba lak, wa al-mutakhaṣṣiṣa bi-l-sharafi al-afkhar, fī kulli mawṭinin min mawāṭini al-qurbi wa maẓhar, qāsima imdādika fī ʿibādik, wa sāqiya kuʾūsi irshādika li-ahli widādik, Sayyida al-Kawnayn, wa Ashrafa al-Thaqalayn, al-ʿAbda al-Maḥbūba al-Khāliṣ al-makhṣūṣa minka bi-ajalli al-khaṣāʾiṣ.
O God, You to whom all hopes are directed and return triumphant, and at whose gate of glory the travelers alight and are flooded with overflowing grace — we turn to You through the noblest means before You: the Master of the Messengers, Your truthful and trustworthy servant, our master Muḥammad, whose message has encompassed all the worlds. We ask that You bestow blessings and peace upon that Perfect Being, the repository of Your trust, the guardian of Your secret, the bearer of the banner of Your all-encompassing call, the Greatest Father, the one beloved to You, the one distinguished with the most splendid honour at every station of nearness and every manifestation, the one who distributes Your provision among Your servants, and the one who pours the cups of Your guidance for those who love You — the Master of the Two Worlds, the Noblest of the Two Weighty Kinds, the beloved and devoted servant singled out by You with the most magnificent distinctions.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَأَهْلِ حَضْرَةِ اقْتِرَابِهِ مِنْ أَحْبَابِهِ.
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim ʿalayhi wa ʿalā ālihi wa aṣḥābihi wa ahli ḥaḍrati iqtirābihi min aḥbābih.
O God, bestow blessings and peace upon him, and upon his family and companions and those drawn near to him from among his beloved.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نُقَدِّمُ إِلَيْكَ جَاهَ هَذَا النَّبِيِّ الْكَرِيمِ، وَنَتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ بِشَرَفِ مَقَامِهِ الْعَظِيمِ، أَنْ تُلَاحِظَنَا فِي حَرَكَاتِنَا وَسَكَنَاتِنَا بِعَيْنِ عِنَايَتِكَ، وَأَنْ تَحْفَظَنَا فِي جَمِيعِ أَطْوَارِنَا وَتَقَلُّبَاتِنَا بِجَمِيلِ رِعَايَتِكَ، وَحَصِينِ وِقَايَتِكَ، وَأَنْ تُبَلِّغَنَا مِنْ شَرَفِ الْقُرْبِ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى هَذَا الْحَبِيبِ غَايَةَ آمَالِنَا، وَتَتَقَبَّلَ مِنَّا مَا تَحَرَّكْنَا فِيهِ مِنْ نِيَّاتِنَا وَأَعْمَالِنَا، وَتَجْعَلَنَا فِي حَضْرَةِ هَذَا الْحَبِيبِ مِنَ الْحَاضِرِينَ، وَفِي طَرَائِقِ اتِّبَاعِهِ مِنَ السَّالِكِينَ، وَلِحَقِّكَ وَحَقِّهِ مِنَ الْمُؤَدِّينَ، وَلِعَهْدِكَ مِنَ الْحَافِظِينَ.
Allāhumma innā nuqaddimu ilayka
jāha hādhā al-Nabiyyi al-Karīm, wa natawassalu ilayka bi-sharafi
maqāmihi al-ʿaẓīm, an tulāḥiẓanā fī ḥarakātinā wa sakanātinā bi-ʿayni
ʿināyatik, wa an taḥfaẓanā fī jamīʿi aṭwārinā wa taqallubātinā bi-jamīli
riʿāyatik, wa ḥaṣīni wiqāyatik, wa an tuballighanā min sharafi al-qurbi
ilayka wa ilā hādhā al-Ḥabībi ghāyata āmālinā, wa tataqabbala minnā mā
taḥarraknā fīhi min niyyātinā wa aʿmālinā, wa tajʿalanā fī ḥaḍrati hādhā
al-Ḥabībi min al-ḥāḍirīn, wa fī ṭarāʾiqi ittibāʿihi min al-sālikīn, wa
li-ḥaqqika wa ḥaqqihi min al-muʾaddīn, wa li-ʿahdika min al-ḥāfiẓīn.
O God, we bring before You the
rank of this Noble Prophet, and we seek Your favour through the honour
of his exalted station: that You watch over us in our movements and our
stillness with the eye of Your care, and that You preserve us through
all our states and changes with the beauty of Your protection and the
strength of Your safeguarding, and that You bring us to the utmost of
our hopes in the honour of nearness to You and to this Beloved, and that
You accept from us whatever we have set in motion of our intentions and
our deeds, and that You place us in the presence of this Beloved among
those who are present, and on the paths of following him among those who
walk, and among those who fulfill what is owed to You and to him, and
among those who keep Your covenant.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ لَنَا أَطْمَاعًا فِي رَحْمَتِكَ الْخَاصَّةِ فَلَا تَحْرِمْنَا، وَظُنُونُنَا جَمِيلَةٌ هِيَ وَسِيلَتُنَا إِلَيْكَ فَلَا تُخَيِّبْنَا، آمَنَّا بِكَ وَبِرَسُولِكَ وَمَا جَاءَ بِهِ مِنَ الدِّينِ، وَتَوَجَّهْنَا إِلَيْكَ مُسْتَشْفِعِينَ، أَنْ تُقَابِلَ الْمُذْنِبَ مِنَّا بِالْغُفْرَانِ، وَالْمُسِيءَ بِالْإِحْسَانِ، وَالسَّائِلَ بِمَا سَأَلَ، وَالْمُؤَمِّلَ بِمَا أَمَّلَ، وَأَنْ تَجْعَلَنَا مِمَّنْ نَصَرَ هَذَا الْحَبِيبَ وَوَازَرَهُ، وَوَالَاهُ وَظَاهَرَهُ، وَعَمَّ بِبَرَكَتِهِ وَشَرِيفِ وِجْهَتِهِ أَوْلَادَنَا وَوَالِدِينَا، وَأَهْلَ قُطْرِنَا وَوَادِينَا، وَجَمِيعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ، وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ، فِي جَمِيعِ الْجِهَاتِ، وَأَدِمْ رَايَةَ الدِّينِ الْقَوِيمِ فِي جَمِيعِ الْأَقْطَارِ مَنْشُورَةً، وَمَعَالِمَ الْإِسْلَامِ وَالْإِيمَانِ بِأَهْلِهَا مَعْمُورَةً، مَعْنًى وَصُورَةً.
Allāhumma inna lanā aṭmāʿan fī raḥmatika al-khāṣṣa fa-lā taḥrimnā, wa ẓunūnunā jamīla hiya wasīlatunā ilayka fa-lā tukhayyibnā, āmannā bika wa bi-rasūlika wa mā jāʾa bihi min al-dīn, wa tawajjahnā ilayka mustashfiʿīn, an tuqābila al-mudhniba minnā bi-l-ghufrān, wa al-musīʾa bi-l-iḥsān, wa al-sāʾila bi-mā saʾal, wa al-muʾammila bi-mā ammal, wa an tajʿalanā mimman naṣara hādhā al-Ḥabība wa wāzarah, wa wālāhu wa ẓāharah, wa ʿamma barakātuhu wa sharīfa wijhatihi awlādanā wa wālidīnā, wa ahla quṭrinā wa wādīnā, wa jamīʿa al-muslimīna wa al-muslimāt, wa al-muʾminīna wa al-muʾmināt, fī jamīʿi al-jihāt, wa adim rāyata al-dīni al-qawīmi fī jamīʿi al-aqṭāri manshūra, wa maʿālima al-Islāmi wa al-Īmāni bi-ahlihā maʿmūra, maʿnan wa ṣūra.
O God, we harbour yearnings for Your special mercy — so do not deny us. Our good opinion of You is our means of approach to You — so do not disappoint us. We believe in You and in Your Messenger and in what he brought of the religion, and we turn to You seeking intercession: that You meet the sinful among us with forgiveness, the wrongdoer with kindness, the one who asks with what he asked for, and the one who hopes with what he hoped for, and that You make us among those who supported this Beloved and stood by him, who allied themselves with him and aided him, and whose blessings encompass —along with the nobility of his path — our children and our parents, the people of our land and our homeland, and all Muslim men and women, and all believing men and women, in every direction. And keep the banner of the upright religion unfurled in every region, and the landmarks of Islam and faith flourishing among their people, in both meaning and form.
وَاكْشِفِ اللَّهُمَّ كُرْبَةَ الْمَكْرُوبِينَ، وَاقْضِ دَيْنَ الْمَدِينِينَ، وَاغْفِرْ لِلْمُذْنِبِينَ، وَتَقَبَّلْ تَوْبَةَ التَّائِبِينَ، وَانْشُرْ رَحْمَتَكَ عَلَى عِبَادِكَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَجْمَعِينَ، وَاكْفُفْ شَرَّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ وَالظَّالِمِينَ، وَابْسُطِ الْعَدْلَ بِوُلَاةِ الْحَقِّ فِي جَمِيعِ النَّوَاحِي وَالْأَقْطَارِ، وَأَيِّدْهُمْ بِتَأْيِيدٍ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَنَصْرٍ عَلَى الْمُعَانِدِينَ مِنَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْكُفَّارِ.
Wa-kshif Allāhumma kurbata
al-makrūbīn, wa-qḍi dayna al-madīnīn, wa-ghfir li-l-mudhnibīn, wa
taqabbal tawbata al-tāʾibīn, wa-nshur raḥmataka ʿalā ʿibādika
al-muʾminīna ajmaʿīn, wa-kfuf sharra al-muʿtadīna wa al-ẓālimīn, wa-bsuṭ
al-ʿadla bi-wulāti al-ḥaqqi fī jamīʿi al-nawāḥī wa al-aqṭār, wa
ayyidhum bi-taʾyīdin min ʿindika wa naṣrin ʿalā al-muʿānidīna min
al-munāfiqīna wa al-kuffār.
O God, relieve the distress
of the distressed, settle the debts of the indebted, forgive the
sinners, accept the repentance of the penitent, and spread Your mercy
over all Your believing servants. Restrain the harm of the aggressors
and the unjust. Extend justice through the righteous authorities in
every region and land, and support them with reinforcement from You and
victory over the obstinate among the hypocrites and the disbelievers.
وَاجْعَلْنَا يَا رَبِّ فِي الْحِصْنِ الْحَصِينِ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْبَلَايَا، وَفِي الْحِرْزِ الْمَكِينِ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ وَالْخَطَايَا، وَأَدِمْنَا فِي الْعَمَلِ بِطَاعَتِكَ وَالصِّدْقِ فِي خِدْمَتِكَ قَائِمِينَ، وَإِذَا تَوَفَّيْتَنَا فَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ مُؤْمِنِينَ.
Wa-jʿalnā yā Rabba fī al-ḥiṣni al-ḥaṣīni min jamīʿi al-balāyā, wa fī al-ḥirzi al-makīni min al-dhunūbi wa al-khaṭāyā, wa adimnā fī al-ʿamali bi-ṭāʿatika wa al-ṣidqi fī khidmatika qāʾimīn, wa idhā tawaffaytanā fa-tawaffanā muslimīna muʾminīn.
Place us, O Lord, in the impregnable fortress from all afflictions, and in the secure refuge from sins and transgressions. Keep us standing firm in obedience to You and in truthful service to You, and when You take our souls, take them while we are in a state of submission and faith.
وَاخْتِمْ لَنَا مِنْكَ بِخَيْرٍ أَجْمَعِينَ.
Wa-khtim lanā minka bi-khayrin ajmaʿīn.
And seal all our affairs with good from You.
وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى هَذَا الْحَبِيبِ الْمَحْبُوبِ لِلْأَجْسَامِ وَالْأَرْوَاحِ وَالْقُلُوبِ، وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَمَنْ إِلَيْهِ مَنْسُوبٌ.
And bestow blessings and peace upon this Beloved, who is loved by bodies, spirits, and hearts, and upon his family and companions and all who belong to him.
وَآخِرُ دَعْوَانَا أَنِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.
Wa ākhiru daʿwānā ani al-ḥamdu li-Llāhi Rabbi al-ʿĀlamīn.And the last of our prayer is: All praise belongs to God, Lord of All the Worlds.

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

إِنَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ أَنْ حَكَمَتِ
القُدْرَةُ بِظُهُورِهِ، وَانْتَشَرَتْ فِي الأَكْوَانِ لَوَامِعُ نُورِهِ.

إِلَى رَضَاعِهِ المُرْضِعَاتُ، وَتَوَفَّرَتْ رَغَبَاتُ أَهْلِ الوُجُودِ
فِي حِضَانَةِ هَذِهِ الذَّاتِ. فَنَفَذَ الحُكْمُ مِنَ الحَضْرَةِ
العَظِيمَةِ، بِوَاسِطَةِ السَّوَابِقِ القَدِيمَةِ، بِأَنَّ الأَوْلَى
بِتَرْبِيَةِ هَذَا الحَبِيبِ وَحِضَانَتِهِ السَّيِّدَةُ حَلِيمَةُ.
وَحِينَ
لَاحَظَتْهُ عُيُونُهَا، وَبَرَزَ فِي شَأْنِهَا مِنْ أَسْرَارِ
القُدْرَةِ الرَّبَّانِيَّةِ مَكْنُونُهَا، نَازَلَ قَلْبَهَا مِنَ
الفَرَحِ وَالسُّرُورِ مَا دَلَّ عَلَى أَنَّ حَظَّهَا مِنَ الكَرَامَةِ
عِنْدَ اللَّهِ حَظٌّ مَوْفُورٌ.
فَحَنَّتْ عَلَيْهِ حُنُوَّ
الأُمَّهَاتِ عَلَى البَنِينَ، وَرَغِبَتْ فِي رَضَاعِهِ طَمَعًا فِي
نَيْلِ بَرَكَاتِهِ الَّتِي شَمِلَتِ العَالَمِينَ.
فَطَلَبَتْ مِنْ أُمِّهِ الكَرِيمَةِ أَنْ تَتَوَلَّى رَضَاعَهُ وَحِضَانَتَهُ وَتَرْبِيَتَهُ بِالعَيْنِ الرَّحِيمَةِ.
فَأَجَابَتْهَا بِالتَّلْبِيَةِ لِدَاعِيهَا، لَمَّا رَأَتْ مِنْ صِدْقِهَا فِي حُسْنِ التَّرْبِيَةِ وَوُفُورِ دَوَاعِيهَا.
فَتَرَحَّلَتْ بِهِ إِلَى مَنَازِلِهَا مَسْرُورَةً، وَهِيَ بِرِعَايَةِ اللَّهِ مَحْفُوفَةٌ وَبِعَيْنِ عِنَايَتِهِ مَنْظُورَةٌ.
فَشَاهَدَتْ فِي طَرِيقِهَا مِنْ غَرِيبِ المُعْجِزَاتِ مَا دَلَّهَا عَلَى أَنَّهُ أَشْرَفُ المَخْلُوقَاتِ.
فَقَدْ
أَتَتْ وَشَارِفُهَا وَأَتَانُهَا ضَعِيفَتَانِ، وَرَجَعَتْ وَهُمَا
لِدَوَابِّ القَافِلَةِ يَسْبِقَانِ. وَقَدْ دَرَّتِ الشَّارِفُ
وَالشِّيَاهُ مِنَ الأَلْبَانِ بِمَا حَيَّرَ العُقُولَ وَالأَذْهَانَ.
وَبَقِيَ
عِنْدَهَا فِي حِضَانَتِهَا وَزَوْجِهَا سَنَتَيْنِ، تَتَلَقَّى مِنْ
بَرَكَاتِهِ وَعَجَائِبِ مُعْجِزَاتِهِ مَا تَقَرُّ بِهِ العَيْنُ،
وَتَنْتَشِرُ أَسْرَارُهُ فِي الكَوْنَيْنِ.
حَتَّى وَاجَهَتْهُ
مَلَائِكَةُ التَّخْصِيصِ وَالإِكْرَامِ، بِالشَّرَفِ الَّذِي عَمَّتْ
بَرَكَتُهُ الأَنَامَ، وَهُوَ يَرْعَى الأَغْنَامَ.
فَأَضْجَعُوهُ عَلَى الأَرْضِ إِضْجَاعَ تَشْرِيفٍ، وَشَقُّوا بَطْنَهُ شَقًّا لَطِيفًا.
ثُمَّ أَخْرَجُوا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ مَا أَخْرَجُوهُ، وَأَوْدَعُوا فِيهِ مِنْ أَسْرَارِ العِلْمِ وَالحِكْمَةِ مَا أَوْدَعُوهُ.
وَمَا أَخْرَجَ الأَمْلَاكُ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ أَذًى، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ زَادُوهُ طُهْرًا عَلَى طُهْرٍ.
وَهُوَ مَعَ ذَلِكَ فِي قُوَّةٍ وَثَبَاتٍ، يَتَصَفَّحُ مِنْ سُطُورِ القُدْرَةِ الإِلَهِيَّةِ بَاهِرَ الآيَاتِ.
فَبَلَغَ إِلَى مُرْضِعَتِهِ الصَّالِحَةِ العَفِيفَةِ مَا حَصَلَ عَلَى ذَاتِهِ الشَّرِيفَةِ.
فَتَخَوَّفَتْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حَادِثٍ تَخْشَاهُ، وَلَمْ تَدْرِ أَنَّهُ مُلَاحَظٌ بِالمُلَاحَظَةِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ مَوْلَاهُ.
فَرَدَّتْهُ
إِلَى أُمِّهِ وَهِيَ غَيْرُ سَخِيَّةٍ بِفِرَاقِهِ، وَلَكِنْ لَمَّا
قَامَ مَعَهَا مِنْ حُزْنِ القَلْبِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِشْفَاقِهِ.
وَهُوَ بِحَمْدِ اللَّهِ فِي حِصْنٍ مَانِعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ أَشْرَفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّءُوفِ الرَّحِيمِ
Allāhumma salli wa sallim ashrafas-salāti wat-taslīm 'Alā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā Muhammadin-rra'ūfir-rahīm
O Allah, send the most noble and elevated of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet, Muhammad — the one of infinite tenderness and mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰى أٰلِهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim wa bārik 'alayhi wa 'alā ālih
O Allah, send salawat, peace, and blessings upon him (ﷺ) and his family..
Thumma innahu ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam baʿda an ḥakkamat al-qudratu bi-ẓuhūrih, wa intasharat fī al-akwāni lawāmiʿu nūrih.
Tasābaqat
ilā raḍāʿihi al-murḍiʿāt, wa tawaffarat raghabātu ahli al-wujūdi fī
ḥaḍānati hādhihi al-dhāt. Fa-nafadha al-ḥukmu min al-Ḥaḍrati al-ʿAẓīma,
bi-wāsiṭati al-sawābiqi al-qadīma, bi-anna al-awlā bi-tarbiyati hādhā
al-Ḥabībi wa ḥaḍānatihi al-Sayyidatu Ḥalīma.Wa ḥīna lāḥaẓat-hu ʿuyūnuhā,
wa baraza fī shaʾnihā min asrāri al-qudrati al-rabbāniyyati maknūnuhā,
nāzala qalbahā min al-faraḥi wa al-surūri mā dalla ʿalā anna ḥaẓẓahā min
al-karāmati ʿinda Allāhi ḥaẓẓun mawfūr.Fa-ḥannat ʿalayhi ḥunuwwa
al-ummahāti ʿalā al-banīn, wa raghibat fī raḍāʿihi ṭamaʿan fī nayli
barakātihi allatī shamilat al-ʿālamīn.Image 2:Fa-ṭalabat min ummihi
al-karīma an tatawallā raḍāʿahu wa ḥaḍānatahu wa tarbiyatahu bi-l-ʿayni
al-raḥīma.Fa-ajābathā bi-l-talbiyati li-dāʿīhā, lammā raʾat min ṣidqihā
fī ḥusni al-tarbiyati wa wufūri dawāʿīhā.Fa-taraḥḥalat bihi ilā
manāzilihā masrūra, wa hiya bi-riʿāyati Allāhi maḥfūfa wa bi-ʿayni
ʿināyatihi manẓūra.Fa-shāhadat fī ṭarīqihā min gharībi al-muʿjizāti mā
dallahā ʿalā annahu ashrafu al-makhlūqāt.Fa-qad atat wa shārifuhā wa
atānuhā ḍaʿīfatān, wa rajaʿat wa humā li-dawābbi al-qāfilati yasbiqān.
Wa qad darrat al-shārifu wa al-shiyāhu min al-albāni bi-mā ḥayyara
al-ʿuqūla wa al-adhhān.Image 3:Wa baqiya ʿindahā fī ḥaḍānatihā wa
zawjihā sanatayn, tatalaqqā min barakātihi wa ʿajāʾibi muʿjizātihi mā
taqarru bihi al-ʿayn, wa tantashiru asrāruhu fī al-kawnayn.Ḥattā
wājahathu malāʾikatu al-takhṣīṣi wa al-ikrām, bi-l-sharafi alladhī
ʿammat barakatuhu al-anām, wa huwa yarʿā al-aghnām.Fa-aḍjaʿūhu ʿalā
al-arḍi iḍjāʿa tashrīf, wa shaqqū baṭnahu shaqqan laṭīf.Thumma akhrajū
min qalbihi mā akhrajūh, wa awdaʿū fīhi min asrāri al-ʿilmi wa
al-ḥikmati mā awdaʿūh.Wa mā akhraja al-amlāku min qalbihi adhan, wa
lākinnahum zādūhu ṭuhran ʿalā ṭuhr.Image 4:Wa huwa maʿa dhālika fī
quwwatin wa thabāt, yataṣaffaḥu min suṭūri al-qudrati al-ilāhiyyati
bāhira al-āyāt.Fa-balagha ilā murḍiʿatihi al-ṣāliḥati al-ʿafīfa mā
ḥaṣala ʿalā dhātihi al-sharīfa.Fa-takhawwafat ʿalayhi min ḥādithin
takhshāh, wa lam tadri annahu mulāḥaẓun bi-l-mulāḥaẓati al-tāmmati min
Mawlāh.Fa-raddathu ilā ummihi wa hiya ghayru sakhiyyatin bi-firāqih, wa
lākin lammā qāma maʿahā min ḥuzni al-qalbi ʿalayhi wa ishfāqih.Wa huwa
bi-ḥamdi Allāhi fī ḥiṣnin māniʿin wa maqāmin karīm.Allāhumma ṣalli wa
sallim ashrafa al-ṣalāti wa al-taslīm, ʿalā sayyidinā wa nabiyyinā
Muḥammad al-Raʾūf al-Raḥīm.
O God, bestow the most noble of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet Muḥammad, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Then, after the Divine Power had decreed his appearance, and the gleaming rays of his light had spread throughout all the realms of existence —
The wet-nurses vied with one another to nurse him, and the hearts of all creation overflowed with longing to care for this blessed being. Then the decree was issued from the Exalted Presence, by virtue of what had been preordained from eternity, that the one most worthy of rearing this Beloved and nurturing him was the Lady Ḥalīma.
And when her eyes fell upon him, and there came to light in her affairs what had been hidden among the secrets of Divine Power, there descended upon her heart such joy and gladness as showed that her share of God's grace was a share abundantly bestowed.
She felt toward him the tenderness of mothers toward their own sons, and she longed to nurse him, hoping to receive something of his blessings — blessings that would come to encompass all the worlds.
She asked his noble mother to entrust her with his nursing, his care, and his upbringing, with a compassionate eye.
His mother answered her call willingly, for she saw in her a sincerity in the goodness of upbringing and an abundance of worthy motives.
So Ḥalīma set off with him toward her dwelling places, full of joy, surrounded by God's protection and watched over by the eye of His care.
Along her way she witnessed such extraordinary miracles as pointed her to the truth that he is the noblest of all created beings.
For she had come with her old she-camel and her donkey both feeble, yet on the return they outpaced every animal in the caravan. And the old camel and the sheep gave forth such milk as bewildered all minds and understanding.
He remained with her in her care, and with her husband, for two years, during which she received from his blessings and the wonders of his miracles what brought delight to the eye, while his hidden realities spread through both worlds.
Until the angels of Divine selection and honour came to him — bearing that distinction whose blessing pervades all of creation — while he was tending the sheep.
They laid him down upon the ground, a laying-down of honour, and opened his chest with a gentle opening.
Then they drew forth from his heart what they drew forth, and they placed within it, of the secrets of knowledge and wisdom, what they placed.
What the angels removed from his heart was not harm; rather, they increased him in purity upon purity.
And through all of this he remained in strength and steadfastness, turning through the pages of Divine Power and its dazzling signs.
Word of what had befallen his noble person reached his righteous and virtuous wet-nurse.
She grew fearful for him on account of some calamity she dreaded, not knowing that he was watched over with the complete watchfulness of his Lord.
So she returned him to his mother, though she was hardly willing to part with him — but it was because of the grief and tender anxiety that had overtaken her heart on his account.
And he, by the praise of God, was in an impregnable fortress and a noble station.
O God, bestow the most noble of blessings and peace upon our master and our Prophet Muḥammad, the compassionate, the merciful.
